In aprogram powered by MINE Magazine held nationwide, Ile-Ife were not left out as teenagers all marched out to tell their colleagues the essence of they taking the 'No Sex Until Marriage' stand and promoting sexual purity.
A morning session of the programme was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Grace and Mercy parish which saw Pastor Ronke Taiwo talk to the youths about sexual purity. In her sermon, she explained that the discipline of saying no to sex before marriage is not just about God been grievious but for our own good. Pastor Ronke cited the escape from sexually transmitted diseases as one of the benefits that decision to stay pure come with. She further said that it even goes beyond sex.
"It goes beyond sex, all forms of sexual impurity should be abstained from. Masturbation, caressing and even kissing before marriage should be done away with." The pastor emphasized.
The overall coordinator of MINE Teenage Ministry, Timilehin Adigun and his spouse who spoke to the audience via the satellite narrated how they decided to stay pure during their time before marriage. They expressed joy for taking that decision at that time as they encouraged nowaday youths to follow suit.
Reacting to the turn up of youths to the maiden walk in Ile-Ife, Ola-Samuel Oluwaseyifunmi, the Ile-Ife coordinator opined it is quite satisfactory as the number of attendees for the walk was very encouraging. In her words, it goes beyond the crowd but impact is the most important thing.
"I can say the purpose has been served because it is all about sexual purity. Even with a few people here, at least for the first time, the population is very encouraging. It is not all about the crowd but impact."
The purity walk which stopped at Lagere did not end there as students of Obafemi Awolowo University were reached via the distribution of handbills on campus sensitizing them on the need to stay pure. The 2016 edition of the programme has been scheduled to hold on June 11.
