Ibiyemi Assumes Office As Secretary General On Monday, June 15

The EPC's newly declared substantive Secretary General elect of the Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Union, Awotiwon Ibiyemi has said he will assume office tomorrow, Monday June 15 by 12noon.

Following the disqualification of the sacked Secretary General of the Students' Union, Oketooto Oluwaseun last week by the Election Petition Committee(EPC), the Speaker of the Students' Representative Council(SRC) is expected to swear-in the winner declared immediately.

In a Press Statement made available to OAU Peeps News Agency by Ibiyemi, he lamented the continued raping of the Great Ife Students' Union constitutions by comrades having politicize the whole issue on ground.

"it melts my heart that things have fallen apart such that some notable comrades of this era of our Union are violently raping its tenets and the jurisprudence of our dear union."
Ibiyemi further raised concerns about the SU President, Akande Omotayo as he failed to yield to the verdict of the Election Tribunal as the sacked Secretary General still signed the Union's Release afterwards.

"The President of the union in his latest release on notice boards and on the Social Media proclaimed the 'DISQUALIFIED' as the Secretary General of our beloved Union. This further affirms the noble truth of Abraham Lincoln, when he said: Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The President, Hon. Tayo, by so doing, has injured and jeopardized the sacrosanct constitution. This act of his has raised dust like an inferno with speculation from many corners. It is my contention that the president respects the institution of our great union by bowing to the order of judicial pronouncement irrespective of their affiliation with Hon. Seun even after he has agreed to concur with decision of the tribunal when I met with him"

In spite of the forgoing, Ibiyemi has said he will assume his full constitutional seat starting from 12noon tomorrow Monday June 15.

Hon. Seun has however not given any public comment on his disqualification since the EPC gave their verdict. Efforts to reach Hon. Seun after the judgement have proved abortive. However, Hon. Seun has vowed in a previous interview with him during the case not to accept the decision of the EPC if it goes against him as he will proceed to the Judicial Council to appeal it.
