UTME: JAMB Scraps Awaiting Results Registration

With effect from this year (2017), candidates awaiting results would no longer be eligible to apply for the Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, said in Abuja on Tuesday.

The organisation also said it had concluded all restructuring and reforms and is now set to commence the sale of its application document in March.

The restructuring exercise will now allow for only one choice of public university in which new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred choice.

A statement by the spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the agency had taken time to add value to the services it have been offering to Nigerians for over three decades.

According to him, the restructuring was aimed at expanding the opportunities available to candidates since almost all the public universities do not consider candidates on the second choice list because they hardly exhaust their first choice.

He said, “We have designed a Central Admissions Processing System where the Board will interface with the institutions and ensure the compliance of this reform. The summary is that no candidate will be admitted with awaiting result. Candidates and their parents are also to note that JAMB has restructured the registration platform to allow for only one choice of public university. The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc.”

Joining the current trend on campus, the Rotaract Club of the Obafemi Awolowo University elected leaders for the next academic session on Sunday, 26th February 2017. After a session of presenting their plans for the club and the voting process, Jimoh Akeem Aduagba emerged as President-elect of the Club.

 The current Vice- President, who had a rather strong contender, had this to say when asked what his reactions to the results of the process were;
" It was a moment of great pleasure, honour and priviledge to have been elected as president of the prestigious Rotaract club of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. My profuse appreciation goes to all members of Rotaract club OAU, for giving me another opportunity to serve humanity. I'm also using this medium to appreciate my co-contestant (Rtr Orimadegun Oritoke) for making the contest a tasking one, However, Rotaract club remains a family, let all join hands together to take Rotaract to the next level, I certainly cannot do it alone."                                         

OAUSU2017: Electoral Petition Indicts Elected Officer, Runner-up To Assume Position

Following a petition by Mr Ojuko Taiwo, the runner-up in the just concluded Hall Executive Council elections in Angola Hall against Mr Coker Oluwapelumi, the election petition committee having sat on the case has found Mr Coker guilty and has indicted him from running for any post in the Students' Union fro his said misconduct. This is to inform the generality of the Great Ife students that the Petition against Mr. Ojuko Taiwo and Mr. Oluwapelumi Coker has been concluded and below are the verdicts given by the committee:

1⃣ That Mr. Coker Oluwapelumi, by virtue of him being an illegal occupant of Angola Hall is illegible to contest having contravened the Sacrosanct Students' Union constitution, SECTION 65 (1) which states that "only registered members of each hall in contest shall vote or be voted for at hall elections". By virtue of that, Mr. Ojuko Taiwo, the  runner up of the election becomes the valid legitimate candidate for the post of General Secretary.

Therefore, the decisions of the Electoral Petition are thus: 

⚫ Ojuko Taiwo assumes position as the general Secretary elect for Angola Hall.

⚫ Coker Oluwapelumi has been indicted from contesting in any Students' Union Election till he graduates.

2⃣  That Commissioner Sanyaolu by virtue of the fact that no evidence was found against him to prove the following allegations:

▪ That he was biased in one way or the other;

▪ That he disrupted the counting process of the elections of Angola hall;

▪ That he campaigned for the acclaimed Coker Oluwapelumi; and

▪ That he screened Coker oluwapelumi.

By virtue of that, commissioner Sanyaolu is free from all guilt as regards the petition.

All Times Group Finally Pull Off Entrepreneurship-Leadership Conference

After postponements consequential to unavoidable incidents, the All Times group finally held her much anticipated Entrepreneurship- Leadership Conference on Saturday, 25th February 2017. The event, which was held at the New Moot and Mock Court of the Faculty of Law, started with an opening remark by Barrister Sola Adegbite.

 Ade Bakare, a fashion designer then took to the stage to lecture the audience on whaat he tagged "Fashionprenuership". In his speech, he expatiated on how the wide the fashion sphere had grown. Enlightening participants on how much opportunities existed in the industry. Adeniyi Adeyinka, a Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of Lagos, then spoke on "Employ-ability Skills and Business Branding". In his speech, he engaged participants on what their plans after school were. He also taught how the audience how to create a wonderful Currilculum Vitae. Dr Akin Ogunbiyi then took the audience through the concept of Insurance and Corporate Investment.  He then went into an interactive section with the students where he facilitated questions and answers before sharing his past as a lecturer to the participants and made being specific the basis of his discussion with measured interest ,achievable calls and experiences.

At the end of their presentations, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi and other facilitators were each presented with an All Times Award by Professor Alao. There were also other discussants at the event, some being; Barrister Charles, who spoke on "Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship in a Global Economy" amongst others.

 Other Schools represented at the event include the University of Ibadan, Oduduwa University, and the Ladoke Akintola University of Science and Technology, Ogbomoso.

University Of Ibadan Dumps 7.0 Grading System For 4.0

If you say Nigeria’s premier university – the University of Ibadan would always want to stand different from its counterparts in the country; well, you may be right after all. The university has just affirmed and announced its decision to change its grading system from the former unique 7.0 to another university-unique 4.0, something similar to what is currently obtainable in Nigerian Polytechnics.

In a statement signed by Prof. M. A. Kehinde and put on the university website, “Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments are enjoined to ensure compliance and commencement of the new regulations with the intakes of 2016/2017 Session, while the old regulations remain applicable to students admitted before the 2016/2017 Session.”

With this development, the Nigeria leading varsity will no longer award a degree to students usually within the ‘pass’ range, making its least degree a Third Class Honour.

“...the recommended Average Minimum Units expected of the students to take/register for is now 40 units (for the new intakes: 100 Level) as against the old 30 units. Given this development, the regulations guiding withdrawal of students in the University in respect of the new system are as follows:

i. 100 Level: At the end of first year, a student who has passed less than 24 units should be asked to withdraw from the University.
ii. 200 Level: At the end of second year, a student who has passed less than 48 units (cumulative) should be asked to withdraw from the University.
iii. 300 Level: At the end of third year, a student who has passed less than 72 units (cumulative) should be asked to withdraw from the University.
iv. The CGPA at each level should not be less than 1.0

Under the new Four (4)-Point Grading Scale, grades to be used for students who have satisfactorily completed the course of study are as follows:

C (50-59%) 2
D (45-49%) 1
E (40-44%) 0

CGPA Ranges under the new Four (4)- Point Grading Scale for Classification of Degrees:

2.0-2.99 - Second Class Honours (Lower Division)
1.0-1.99 - Third Class Honours”

In the mean time, the questions and debates have centered on whether or not the new grading system is tougher than the former 7.0 and even the 5.0 being used by all other universities in the country.

SPE OAU Unveils Plans For Week, Invites Students To Participate in Game of Capitals

The Society of Petroleum Engineers has unveiled the highlights of her much anticipated and captivating week. This was done by the earlier in the week as the Society unveiled her Game of Capitals Contest. The contest is to examine the familiarity of Students with Countries and their capitals. The highlights of the week are;

1st March- Game of capitals @ Awocafe by 4:30pm.
2nd March- Catch them Young for Secondary schools.

Awolowo Hall Beats Fajuyi Hall At Penalties To Claim Inter-Hall Cup

The final match of the Obafemi Awolowo University Inter Hall soccer Contest was played yesterday at Sport complex between  Awolowo Hall vs Fajuyi Hall. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Anthony Elujoba, who was present at the event once again reaffirmed his affection for sports as he appreciated the Sports Council for organising the contest which was the first of its kind this year and further stated that more was expected from the University.  Some other officials of the University were also present at the event; Prof(Mrs) Grace Akinola, the Dean of Students Affairs amongst others.

The game started at about 4:30pm and the Fajuyian players scored the first goal of the match after the opposition committed a foul in the 18 yard box and they were awarded a penalty kick. The Great men of the Awolowo Castle then responded some minutes later with a goal from Emak. The first half ended 1-1 and the second half commenced after some track events.

The tide turned in favour of the Fajuyian side once again when Doyin, a dominant part of the offence drove in a free kick. However, a balance was achieved in the last minute to the end of the game when Aguero got injured and also got a penalty kick penalty. The game ended 2-2 and both teams then proceeded to penalty kicks where the Awolowo team then legally claimed the trophy with a 5-4 victory in their favour. It is worthy to note that Awolowo Hall won only one game in the tournament and had four draws whilst the Fajuyi Hall won three games and lost two.

OAU And Her Governing Council Of Reconciliation By Abiodun Olanrewaju

It is no longer news that the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has gotten a new Governing Council under the able chairmanship of a media guru, an astute manager of men and materials, a former lecturer at the then University of Ife and a founding father of the Guardian Newspaper, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, who, together with other eminent Nigerians, have been saddled with the responsibility of restoring peace, enduring peace, to the 55 years old University which had been torn into near shreds through intra staff strives and condensed animosity among its workforce.

Infact, Obafemi Awolowo University had never had it so tough and rough when all academic, technical and administrative activities were brutally grounded by all the unions who were united in fightingNow, how will Yemi restore peace to Obafemi Awolowo University and how will Ogunbiyi re-unite the already scattered, hitherto indivisible family of Obafemi Awolowo University?

Does he still know the terrain of the University he once lectured in, almost forty (40) years ago? With his friends in virtually all the “factions”, what will Dr. Ogunbiyi do and say, that will make the “warriors” sheathe their swords? These and many more are the questions begging for answers from this new Governing Council.

Not surprisingly, Dr. Ogunbiyi, whose administrative prowess has never been in doubt, hit the ground running during the inaugural meeting of the new council; less than three weeks after the announcement of its members by the Federal Government.

The courtesy call on the Ooni of Ife by this council prepared stakeholders for great expectation. As a Chief of Ife (Omolokun Adimula of Ife), Dr. Ogunbiyi assured Kabiyesi that the town (Ife) and gown (OAU) would now have more beneficial relationship which would be midwifed by the Council.

Applauding the new council, the Ooni of Ife eulogised the sparkling qualifies of all the council members and showered them with royal blessings for a smooth running of the governance of Obafemi Awolowo University. Having been impressed by the calibre of people in the council, Kabiyesi urged them to use their individual wealth of experience and collectively pooled them to further uplift Obafemi Awolowo University to a greater height.

In less than 24 hours, the new council had toured all facilities, on and off campus, with a determined pledge to refurbish or upgrade those that needed repairs and, if possible, procure new ones. The tour to the halls of residence was most interesting, particularly that of the Awolowo Hall, reputed to be the socio-political headquarters of Great Ife, when Dr. Ogunbiyi engaged the students in a mini town hall meeting with questions and answers.

Impressed by his candour and conduct, and coming to their level by visiting their toilets, bathrooms and rooms, the Awoites (as residents call themselves) started surging; ‘Baba ti ba wa se’ (our father has done it for us), T’alo so p’a o ni Baba (who says we don’t have a father”) etc, in appreciation of what the council promised to do for them.

By this time, the atmosphere on campus has become frenzied as all the staff unions have been waiting for the man of the moment who had scheduled a meeting of reconciliation with them.

One after the other, and in a no-hold barred, frank talk, issues raised were soundly tackled, puzzles were clinically solved, questions were brilliantly answered, grey arrears were intelligently addressed, wounds were healed and realistic solutions proffered to some perceived knotty issues. It was at this point that the seed of reconstruction of faith in our collective destiny was planted and the incubation of reconciliation was made manifest.

Having restored peace to Obafemi Awolowo University, the next agendum for this council is ensuring a smooth academic calendar and appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor for this 55 years old citadel of intellectualism.

Stakeholders are of the firm belief that the combination of business acumen, academic attainment, administrative prowess, native intelligence and cultural orientation of Yemi Ogunbiyi and his council members would restore the University to its former glorious position as the best in Nigeria and Africans Most Beautiful Campus, West of Sahara, North of Limpopo.

Olabimpe Samiah Emerges Winner In Eduregard/Fynestboi Essay Contest

The prize giving ceremony of the just concluded EDUREGARD/FYNESTBOI ESSAY CONTEST came up on Saturday, 18th February, 2017 at Foodie Factory, New Market, OAU at 6pm.

The event was hosted to award the winners of the essay contest and it had in attendance; Jacob Tosin Grace (Emerald) -OAU SU VP Elect, Boluwajaiye Adeoluwa (Fynestboi) - OAU SU Secretary General Elect, Oluyemi Busayo (Aluta Pastor) - President, FASA OAU, Fatourouti Kayode (Fattykay) - CEO/Eduregard amongst others.

After weeks of entries and over 100 submissions, the results which were released on 11th February,2017 had the following contestants made the top 6 positions:

JASFET Foundation Shows Love To Orphans On Valentines Day

Admist the celebration of valentine, JASFET Foundation embarked  on a trip to Abiye Orphanage & Children Home located at Agowande area, Oshogbo, Osun state.

JASFET Foundation is co-founded by Jegede Abayomi Samuel and Fetuga Aderibigbe. The party arrived at the orphanage home at about 3:30pm and were received by Pastor Ayoola, who was the head of the orphanage home. Mr Ayoola introduced the crew to Mrs Ijagbemi, the head of care giver and to some other staffs. He appreciated the foundation for visiting the Home despite the economic hardship.

Upon introduction of the foundation, a round table competition was held in which the kids enjoyed.

Jegede Abayomi Samuel stated the purpose for the visit. He highlighted 4 purpose for which the foundation was established which includes;
1. Donation to Orphanage Home.
2. Youth Empowerment.
3. Leadership.
4. Educational support.
He asked the Head of care giver some questions part of which include; 'why do the rich people in the country fails to support the Orphanage Home?'.
"The rich people in this country are too wicked and ignorant because they are stingy with their money and fail to support the needy, she said". When asked how many kids were in the Home, she said that there are currently about 2O Children.

FETUGA, a co - founder of the foundation , asked on the necessary procedure for adopting a child from the orphanage home. Mrs Ijagbemi noted that the Commission  for Women Affairs was responsible for approving the adoption of a child from the Home. She then solicited for support from Nigerians. She said the rate at which the home is visited has reduced drastically due to recession in the  economy.

JASFET Foundation donated  gifts such as biscuits, sweet and some other goodies and also some amount of money to the Home. Pictures were taken with the kids and staffs of the orphanage home. The staffs appreciated the foundation for the hands of love extended to the home. The party left the home at about 5:40pm.

Official: Final Results Of The OAU Students' Union Election

Following two days of students going to the polls to determine their next student leadership, the Electoral Commission has officially announced the winners of the elections. Declaring the results at about 05:20am on Saturday, February 18, the Show Baba-led commission announced a year 4 medical student, Oyekan Ibukun Edward a.k.a Dr IBK as the president-elect of the Union and a year 4 law student, Jacob Oluwatosin Grace a.k.a Emerald as the Vice President-elect.

JAMB 2017 Examinations To Hold In May

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have announced that the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will hold in May 2017.

This was made known by the JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, through the Board’s Twitter handle @jambhq

According to him, actual dates will be announced soon. He also advised candidates to beware of false dates and fraudsters.

“2017 UTME is scheduled to hold in May 2017. Actual dates will be announced soon. Beware of false dates and fraudsters,” he said.

Meanwhile, JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has explained why an unusual delay has preceded the sales of application forms.

He said the ongoing switch-over in the major thrust of the sale of form which is the scratch card to direct payment into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) was responsible for the delay.

Oloyede said: “We are changing the major trust of the sale which is the scratch card. Candidates used to buy scratch cards to access the forms online and that has been abused thoroughly.

“What we want to do is for students to pay directly to government coffers and we are working out the process of doing so to avoid the type of abuse that it has been subjected to. So, we want to sell directly and to make sure that candidates pay into TSA account.”

OAUSU2017: Candidates Take Last Minute Steps As Faculty Of Arts Heads To The Polls Today

Following the postponement of her elections due to some alleged delay in the arrival of electoral materials, the ongoing Students' Union for the Faculty of Arts has been moved till today, Friday 17th February 2017. This however has caused aspirants to start making last minute moves, especially aspirants whose total number of votes as at yesterday remain close to opponents.

However, some other candidates already lead in their offices with a good number of votes; Lamba, Emerald and some others being examples.

There are also claims that the Chairman of the Electoral Commission Mr Fadele Olusola cancelled the elections of the Faculty of Technology. However efforts to reach him till now have proven abortive.

Obafemi Awolowo University Hosts First Global Health Pharmacy Course In West Africa

The Faculty of Pharmacy of the Obafemi Awolowo University once again achieved a great feat as she alongside Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the University of Port-Harcourt hosted the first ever Global Health Pharmacy Course In West Africa. The programme which was held between Saturday, 11th Sunday, 12th February 2017 was held at the New Pharmacy Building, Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife.

In all, the programme featured about 18 Sessions, most of which were facilitated by the Course Coordinator, Professor Don Eliseo Prisno, a global health practitioner from China. Some of the other facilitators of the programme include Professor Fatusi; the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Pharmacist ‘Bisi Adenipekun; President, Lighthouse Global Health Initiative, Pharmacist Aniekan Ekpeyong amongst others. The founder of the organizing body; AB Global Health initiative, Dr Maidas Ayomide, was also present at the event.

The programme, which was designed for pharmacy schools in the western region featured seven schools; the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin, University of Benin, Igbinedion, Olabisi Onabanjo University and the Obafemi Awolowo University.

Commenting on the programme, the coordinator for the Western Region, Mustapha Abdulafeez stated that the programme was brought up from a desire to motivate students to make impact in the sphere of Global health even whilst still undergraduates and contribute to the development of society. Further speaking on the event, the Public Relations Officer  of the Western Cohort, Farombi Oluwaseun said; “The programme was indeed a success as expected schools participated in mass and  we are proud that we proved the Great Ife to be a leading institution in Pharmacy practice by hosting the first ever Global Health Certificate Course in West Africa”.

The National Executives of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS) led by Alo Setofunmi were also present at the event. New Market : there are some good places in new market too. It's not only for buying foodstuff. Go there, take a stroll and you will find nice spots.

Country kitchen and Captain cook : they are at Mayfair and they have all sorts of foods, you can have any.

Tantalizers : tantalizers is now in Ife if you didn't know. Well, its a beautiful place and tasty meals at affordable prices. Try it out.

JiL Fingerlicks: if you love ice cream, wave your hands in the air like you just don't care. I am sure you will be excited when I tell you that if you want finger-licking flavors of ice cream and other accompaniments.

Goubolee : you think you have tasted all the flavours of ice cream? Go to Goubolee, then you know you are wrong. They are not only limited to that, they have Chinese rice and native rice too. It is situated along the road leading to Mayfair. You can order as well.

OAU Students Reveal Plans For Valentines Day

     OAU Peeps News Agency walked the streets of OAU and interviewed students on their plans for valentine's day and it seems like February 14 which is marked as the St. Valentine's day, a day lovers do special things with and for themselves might be celebrated this year.

This year, the date falls on a school day and despite it not being a public holiday, OAU students still have it going. We tried to gather some of these plans.

     Elvis in part 1, History said he is just gonna wear all black to mourn St. Valentine because he has a busy day. He told his anyone ready to secret val him that he doesn't mind a wristwatch and he gave a shout-out to his crush Cecilia in part 1, English.
     Kolawole in part 5, Law said he is going out with his girlfriend in the evening after a busy day and any secret crush or val should pack up, he is hooked. He sends his shout out to his girlfriend, Itunu also in part 5, law.

     Arese in part 1, Geophysics said she is going out with a special guy friend after class and advised her secret crush or Val's to speak up and she doesn't mind dinner. She gave shout-outs to Aliyah in Architecture, Opekuku in electrical electronics engineering and all her friends in her department.

     Deborah in part 1, Accounting said she is going out with her crush to Indulge at Buka and suggested to her secret val to buy her gifts or take her to a spa that she needs a massage after OAU's stress. She gave shout-outs to her roommates and Fisayo in zoology.

     Hayfloze in part 3, EDM said he will cook a special dish and invite a special someone over for a candle lit dinner. He also advised his secret val to speak up and they should hang out. And he gave a shout out to Ike in English that she is pretty and he is in love with her.

     Nelson in part 3, Electrical Electronics Engineering said he will just spend it with guys and chill after a long day of school. He told his secret val that all he wants as a gift is for her to come and ask him out,he is in need of a girlfriend. He gave a shout-out to his crush, Dija in computer engineering.

     Mary Ann in part 1, psychology said she is going to go see a movie with her friends. She also told her secret val that all she wants is to be taken to a romantic restaurant and have an exquisite dinner. She shouted out to her crazy roommates, class mates, sister and a special shout-out to her boyfriend in psychology that she loves him.

     Funmibi in part 1, Chemistry is just going to stay in her hostel and hoping for something big and nice and she believes she has no secret val anywhere, still keeping her fingers crossed. She gave a shout-out to her roommates, Deolu and Marcelo in Agric, Dieko and Muyiwa in electrical electronics.

     All of these is just a tip of the iceberg from some students of OAU. What are your plans today?

Preservation Or Mummification: And Yet Another Omole Crisis…- Pope Jay

Considering the past reactions of certain persons to criticism, I would not be surprised if at the end of this piece I am regarded with names like “Capitalist”, “Betrayer” and the likes. If anything, I have learnt that as much as we like impose our ideals on others, we often find it difficult to work with criticism. However, I have authored this piece with no prejudice to any person or party. I have only tried to express my opinions in the least provocative ways possible. 

 The politicking in the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union has certainly taken an upward nudge over the past few weeks and whilst I personally have noted certain anomalies in the electoral procedures (some of which I have written about), I feel one of the errors of the Electoral commission, most especially in drafting the guidelines was its silence on the participation of final year students (as candidates) in the Electoral process. And from the look of things, the resultant effect of that oversight might be upon us already. 

 You would think with the kind of history the Obafemi Awolowo University has with “Omoles” we have had just about enough. But no! Yet again under dramatic conditions, another Omole has again come to preside over the students of the school. Whether or not he is another reincarnation of the kind of Omoles we have had in the past is for the gods to answer but the circumstances under which this controversial persona contests is one to critically assess, one that I fear might as well send back our Student’s Union before its arrival, if not distort its foundation for the generations to come.

 The Omole Ibukun campaign tag has been “Preserved to Preside”; birthed majorly from the fact that the man is a final year student who plans to be the President of the Students’ Union in an extra year. Apart from the fact that this in itself is highly absurd, it should not be the kind of example the Obafemi Awolowo Union Students’ Union should be setting at this point in time. We complain of the kind of politicians found at the level of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS):  Persons taking per time courses just to participate in students politics; majorly of course for selfish reasons. And here we stand about to walk majestically into the same quicksand. 

 I have heard arguments that his delay is due to his “tactical suspension” and is thus justified. But rather than give some reassurance, this in itself only just scares me more. People who followed the “Tactical Suspension” matter would recall that that started from “Animals in the Senate”; an article perhaps only rivalled by the Femi Adeyeye’s piece on the Unilag Management (If that is even a worthy competition). 

At this point in time, we can only hope the electorate makes the best choice come 16^th February, if not for anything but to correct the errors of the Commission. For it is obvious now, even to the blind, that the Great Ife has sure had her fair dose of crises and if any reasonable progress in the redemption course is to be made, all hands have to be on deck. But then again, I’m sure we can handle anything that comes along. After all, Brexit and Trump happened only last year!

OAUDecides2017: Meet The Contenders; Director Of Socials

As the generality of Great Ife students set out to the polls to decide their next set of Union Leaders next week, it is essential that they have a modicum of information about the political aspirants and their ambitions.  The battle for the office of the Director of Socials OAU is between Afolabi Adedayo Emmanuel and Ojuola Victor Okikiola.

Adedayo  Afolabi Emmanuel(Lamba) is a 400 level student from the department of Agricultural Economics in the Faculty of Agriculture. He has served as the Director of Socials of his departmental association for 2014/15 session and is the current Director of Socials for the Faculty of Agriculture.  In an exclusive interview with OAU Peeps News Agency, Lamba, as he is popularly known asserted that socialising is not all about partying. According to him, asides partying and hangouts, educating and talent promoting events can influence the social life of undergraduates. He further reiterated that, if elected, he would make the social life of OAU students a 'memorable' one. When asked if he was a religious person due to a constant reference to God in the course of the interview, Lamba replied "I am not religious, I’m just normal."  He declared "individualism" when asked if he was working with other aspirants to garner votes in the forthcoming election.

On the other hand: Ojuola Victor Okikiola (Chauwlee) is a 300 level student of the department of Dramatic Arts in the Faculty of Arts.  He contested for the same position at the Departmental level in 2014/2015. Victor is a 300 level student in the department of Dramatic Arts, also in an exclusive interaction with OAU Peeps News Agency, Chauwlee as he is popularly called stated that going religious is being social. He expatiated by saying that although not everyone was socially inclined, religious activities can also be an avenue of establishing some level of social networking as students. He further stated that the office of the social director is the only avenue that can assemble a large population at a single sitting for leisure and innovative purposes. When asked about his plans if eventually elected, Chauwlee declared to involve the students in the renovation and reeducation of OAU students on a social life and all it entails.

We Are Bringing A Change From The Norm- Emerald

In an interactive session with OAU Peeps News Agency, Jacob Oluwatosin Grace aka Emerald, a contestant for the post of Vice President in the upcoming Students Union elections, shared her plans and goals if successfully elected into office. Introducing herself as a part four student of the faculty of Law, she stated her current position as an active member of CLASFON, and her other religious and leadership roles.
Emerald went ahead to give a detailed breakdown of her aims and goals concerning academics if elected. She spoke on her plans to revive the past glory of academic excellence in OAU. Speaking on the problem of mass failure, she proffered a two way solution; setting up an active academic committee of the SRC where victim(s) would be able to lodge complaints without fear, thus avoiding the long processes that usually characteristic of such cases usually involve. She said, "We don't want processes to stop justice, that is, we don't want to sacrifice justice on the altar of technicalities. That is why we'll need to set up an ad hoc academic committee to speed up processes... Also by working hand in hand with the academic committee of each department, it would be a collective responsibility for everyone..."
She also spoke on her aim to attend to the problem of delay in the release of results. Explaining how this problem affects NYSC posting for our graduates and scholarships schemes application for students. She talked about organizing academic programs that will motivate students to put in more effort in academics, referring to times when first class graduates were given. In addition, she talked about projecting an all-encompassing programme to orientate freshmen to prevent exploitation and change the mindset of apathy to unionism. Emerald went on further to explain that going for a leadership position should not be for monetary gain or selfish interest. Also, that being a union member should not place anybody above the other students. She said, "You're not a union member because you hold an office, but because you are a student of OAU..."

When asked why her empowerment and skill acquisition plan was only for female students, which seemed like a gender bias, she explained that the female gender is generally sidelined, even though there is no bias in the SUG concerning female aspirants. She stated that her administration would urge ladies to participate more in activities, because there are many ladies who would function effectively in other offices in the Students Union.

Further questions about her opinion about twenty first century unionism brought up her motto "Mutare Ad Normam" which means "a change from the norm". She was further asked if the popularly vibrant Great Ife students union needed a change. She said a change in mindset was necessary. Students should not go into union activities for monetary gains but for service. She explained, "Student union leaders have not been responsible in their clamoring. We can't ask for what we ourselves don't have or portray. We don't have to always use political power every time. Sometimes, diplomacy works fine..."

In conclusion, when asked why she considered herself the best candidate for the post, she replied, "The Union is a pressure group fighting for the collective good of all. An injury to one is an injury to all... I'm the best candidate because my aims are purely humanitarian. I'm working for our interests and coming to set things right..." she concluded.
