Webometrics Ranking: OAU Remains Nigerian Best University


The newly released University ranking for the second half of 2014 by the popular Webometrics has insist Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) as the current best University in Nigeria.


The top spot has been maintained by the foremost university since last year as the running up spots continue to change. Convenant University in Ota, Ogun state has also risen to its record rank of second position in Nigeria and the best private University in Nigeria. Followed closely are University of Ibadan, University of Lagos and University of Ilorin in the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively. Also worthy of note is the Federal University of Technology, Akure in the 9th position making it the best Technology School in Nigeria. Among the newly created 6 Universities, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State is ranked best in the 17th national position. No Nigerian University according to the ranking is neither among the top 10 Universities in Africa nor the top 1500 Universities in the World.

The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions. Since 2004 and every six months an independent, objective, free, open scientific exercise is performed by the Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) for the providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world based on their web presence and impact.

  2. I am an intending predite of the so-called Oau ...
    I don't see what is in this school that still makes it to stand as first.Maybe the VC is sending webometric bribe.
    Since one week OAU has refused to release our result. This school is joking with us oo...
    What type of rubbish and catastrophe is this.
    I wrote the exam only to find two chemistry questions,Old literature texts as questions and I sent CDL a message a month before the exam and I was told to read the previous waec/jamb text.
    To crown it all..The CRS was too useless...for us..
    OAU CDL..should take time because we intending predites are already infuriated and flabbergasted As a result of this..
    If care is not taken .we would deploy a sect of to send our results to us by email.
