OAU Students drink Sniper, One Confirmed Dead

OAU Students drink Sniper, One Confirmed Dead

It was reported that two students of OAU took sniper and one of them died immediately.

On Tuesday 20th of April, 2021, Adedeji Emmanuel, a 200 level student of the department of Management and Accounting drank the deadly poison, sniper and was found dead. The reason behind his decision is unknown.
According to one of his mates, prior to his death, Emmanuel took his friend out to hang out with them. So, he showed no sign of depression or sadness.
The other student is unknown but is in critical condition. The student is currently receiving treatment at OAUTHC.
It is our prayer that God grants the parents and colleagues of the deceased  a strong fortitude to bear the loss.

Scarcity of Water in OAU Halls of Residence

Scarcity of Water in OAU Halls of Residence

By Hamzat Abdulkabir
The students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, suffer acute absence of water across halls of residence.

Many students have shown concerns and distress because they gone many days without taking bath and using water for the essentials. It is really saddening that nothing could justify that the students, at this stage still battling water scarcity, are going to get help in this matter of serious concern.

Reports across the school revealed that the real cause of this situation has not been made known publicly. The situation is the same across all halls of residence and nothing has been done to exit from this critical situation.

According to a recent survey report from some affected students, there has not been water in halls of residence for about a week. Meaning that students are going about their daily activities without the use of water. Most students have been relying on colored well water, stream water and even have to purchase sachet water to go about some of their daily activities.

OAU Peeps correspondent in a physical contact  with  a porter at the Awolowo hall of residence discovered that the school management is working towards fixing the water issue.
He said; “there have been some technical issues from the major source of water into the halls of residence and that efforts have been made to get it right."

Some halls already have water running but many students are still lacking the supply of water.

However,  the affected students feel there is nothing to show compliance or no sense of urgency to the issue.
The situation is really annoying, I had to go to town to do my Laundry,” Femi, a student who resides in Awolowo hall of residence expressed.

It needs to be reiterated that the provision of potable water supply is one of the primary responsibilities of the school management. Water is a basic amenity and the school management should not be acting as a lone ranger on this very important matter.
The students implore the school management to fix the water situation as soon as possible. That the school management should look into the critical objective of making water available in halls of residence, through alternatives, so students can go about their normal lives.

NASSORS Supends President, Treasurer, Impeaches General Secretary

By Adesina Ayomide Emmanuel

National Association of Students Of Religious Studies has impeached the General Secretary of the association, suspended the President and the Treasurer respectively.

On Friday 16th of April, 2021, there was a gathering. The president of the association, Abdul-lateef Mustopha Opeyemi was suspended for three weeks on the basis that he was trying to cover up for the General Secretary Enughu Joella who has not been available since the beginning of the semester. He claimed that the General Secretary sent a letter to the Executive Council.  Save the treasurer, the rest of the executives maintained that they had no knowledge of the letter.

The president claimed that the General Secretary handed over officially to his Assistant General Secretary Ojo Jeremiah who denied the claimed in the presence of the congress Men and Women that he was not handed any official letter.

This made Congress Men and Women to be furious with the President and the Treasurer for trying to cover up for the General Secretary without any proof. The motion for the impeachment of the General Secretary was moved by Honorable Temi representing Part 2 constituency  and seconded by Comrade Luwa.

Honorable Temi also moved a motion that the President be suspended indefinitely and it was seconded by Honorable Emperor.
However, there was countered with a motion from Comrade Luwa that the President and the Treasurer be suspended for three weeks. After this, they decided that a committee contesting of Part 4 students would be set up to verify the claims of the President and the treasurer.

The Vice- president Oke- Funmilayo has been ordered to assume the post of the President Constitutionally while the Assistant General Secretary Ojo Jeremiah assumed the post of the General Secretary.
