"We will be Having Our Own Airport Soon"--OAU VC

"We will be Having Our Own Airport Soon"--OAU VC
The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, on Monday disclosed plans to build an airport within the campus of the institution soon.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Eyitope, dropped the hint at the 2019 Faculty of Technology International Conference, held at OAU ICT Park recently, saying that the airport would serve as training ground for the planned aeronautic programme of the university.

The vice-chancellor said, “We believe that the future of travel globally is in the air.  It is in view of this that we are starting an aeronautic programme.  As part of this, we will be having our own airport.

“We have over 11,000 hectares of land, with which we hope to achieve our objective and we have developed a proposal for the airport. We will be taking it up with the authorities to ensure that we do not only have the aeronautic programme here, but also build an airport that will serve that purpose.

“We want to make OAU the hub of aeronautic studies in Nigeria. Currently no federal university in the country offers a programme in aeronautic studies. We believe that with OAU taking up this challenge, we can go places with it.

This idea was contemplated some years ago. Now we are very serious with it. We have the drawings in place and the land has been earmarked. Everything that we need for the airport and to start the programme is ready.”

In his keynote address, themed, ‘Diversification of Developing Economies: Imperatives for Sustainable Environment and Technological Innovations’, Prof Oluwatoyin Ashiru said ideas are abundant in Nigeria but the framework transform the ideas into reality.

Stressing that ideas abandoned in the country thrived in other countries of the world, Ashiru noted that the difference between Nigeria and other countries is the level of commitment and dedication to its development

Emergency Renovation:Occupants of Angola Hall Sent Out Of Their Rooms Without Alternative Provisions

Emergency Renovation:Occupants of Angola Hall Sent Out Of Their Rooms Without Alternative Provisions

By Ogunlowo Samiat

100 level students of Obafemi Awolowo University staying at Block G of Angola Hall have been sent packing from their rooms as a result of an emergency renovation.

These students reported to have been sent out of their respective rooms with no provision of where they'd stay until the completion of the renovation.

While Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency, one of the Occupants, he said:
"We were told about 2 Weeks ago that they want to renovate the hostel. Last week Friday, they asked us to pack our things and we did. They told us to squat with our friends but it made them inconvenient so we left to relax in our various rooms on saturday. Then the Hall warden came to harass us"

One of the Occupants who asked for anonymity said they had to go back regardless because there was no where for them to sleep. Although the room is still under renovation, he said they have been sleeping there since the laborers said they were not disturbing them.

But unfortunately, the Occupants of the rooms were denied entry into the rooms by the laborers on Tuesday 17th of September. The laborers claimed they are following the instructions of an Alumni who gave them the contract.

Meanwhile one of the Students' parent also expressed displeasure to this News Agency about the timing of the renovation.

"My son is also affected. Why did the school management not wait till the end of the session. This is not fair."- she proclaimed

However, all efforts to contact the Dean of  Students' Affairs, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, proved abortive as all calls and texts were not acknowledged.

OAU Security Unit Limits Male's Movement Into Maintenance Halls.

By Omale Franklin

After more than three months of No entry by male visitors into the popular female Maintenance Halls of Residence, the OAU security unit has made an official statement limiting the visitor's movement.

This was made known to the public through a circular released by the security department of the University and obtained by OAU Peeps News Agency.  It was made known in the circular that movement of male visitors into maintenance halls is now limited to 12 o'clock noon and 8 o'clock pm.

The Security Unit further explained that the limit was given  due to the recent security challenges faced by the halls of residence, and also to curb the likely effect of neighbouring security breach and spillover that might occur.

The circular was concluded by warning defaulters of the new set rule. It reads "any defaulter will be regarded as violating security directives and will be treated accordingly".
