OAU Female Student Injures Friend Over Allegations Of Smoking

It was an ugly drama few days ago at Bims Hostel along Ede road, Ile-Ife  as two female friends fought dirty after an heated argument.

OAU Peeps News Agency gathered that the two ladies named Temitope & Nifemi were good friends before the bad incidence. It was also confirmed that Temitope is an undergraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU),  the department of history  against Foreign languages reported by some blogs while  Nifemi is an undergraduate student of the department of Computer Science, Oduduwa University Ife (OUI).

As widely reported, it was stated that Tope threw Roll-on at Nifemi"s head for allegedly daring to advice her against smoking. However, while speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency, Tope confirmed she threw the Roll-on at her friend but not for advising her against smoking. Tope stated that they have been friends for a while and that they both smoke.

Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency, Nifemi the injured OUI student stated that after the injury sustained she has been treated at a nearby hospital. She further added that she sustained the injury for being  against her friend( Tope) who smokes. Nifemi stated that she doesn't smoke at all.

Speaking further, Nifemi explained to OAU Peeps News Agency that 5 reflons(a drug)  was given to her friend Tope to keep but she took three out of the five which is not supposed to be. She(Nifemi) stated that Tope insulted her brother after they both confronted her(Tope) for smoking what is not hers.

""She is my Friend, I wouldn't  have reported her to the Police, but when she was still standing on the wrong act she did even when blood was gushing from her head, I had to call my parent and report to the Police"; Nifemi Stated.

However, Speaking extensively with OAU Peeps News Agency, Temitope the accused student stated that they both smoke, take Reflon(a drug). Temitope stated that she truly threw Roll-on at Nifemi while she(Nifemi) was abusing her over reflon which  later led to her arrest by the Police.

Tope stated  that the story on instablog is a  scandalous attempt to destroy her image as she didn't want to go to the media in the first place but her friend;Nifemi was faster than her.

  In her words with OAU Peeps News Agency, she stated;

"  This girl Nifemi is my friend,  who travels too much and most times she lies to her mum that she’s with me so I cautioned her about that, I didn’t know she was not happy with that until Monday 13th Of August; She told me to follow her to see one of her boyfriends because she  didn't  want to sleep over, so I followed her .

 When we got there, her boyfriend offered me weed and reflon which I said I’d take when I get home, her boyfriend collected the weed from my friends cousin and I was given  a sachet of reflon to take the amount I want. Due to the fact that my friend takes reflon and smokes too so I took 3 considering  my friend Nifemi too. Instantly her cousin's face changed even when I waved him goodnight, he didn’t reply me

To cut the long story short, the next day my friend told me that the reason why her cousin didn’t respond to my greetings the previous night  was because I took three out of five of refs and I questioned his immaturity to get angry over reflon,  over how much!

 That was what we were arguing about when my friend accused me of being a prostitute because the guys she likes are close to me . I told her to stop she didn’t listen, she kept calling me names and she turned her back to me and I wanted to throw the roll-on at her so she could stop talking so she turned and the roll-on met her on d forehead.. I didn't throw stone on her and it was not intentional.

And her boyfriend; Isaac went to report me to the police then I found out that her boyfriend knows the IPO in charge of the case.  This is because Isaac is a yahoo boy. That day, I was called to come to the police station which I did .The issue was settled amicably that day she even hugged me and we said we would talk about things after until  people started calling me that she was asking for my nude pictures, my matric number and my level. The next thing I would hear was my name is already on instablog 9ja".

Meanwhile, Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency, a resident of Bims Hostel where the incident occurred who pleaded anonymity, stated that the fight between the two friends remains a shock to them all as the two have been seen together different times. He stated reflon caused their fight &he cannot guarantee that that the injured student(Nifemi) doesn't smoke ,concluding with an adage which says "' Show me your friend and I will know who you are"".

Sex-For-Mark: CONUA Enlightens students on sexual harassment.

The Congress of university academics (CONUA) knowing the  need for creating awareness on the  part of both students and lecturers on the effect of sexual harassment and a need to fight the continual rise of  sexual harassment within the campus has held a programme orientating on the sexual harassment on 15th of August 2018 titled "Sexual harassment in Nigeria universities and containment" at Ajose lecture OAU, ile ife.

The event was organised majorly to orientate students on the negative impacts of sexual harassment and as well educate them on how to handle such situations.

The events served as a means to educate both students and lecturers on the laws guiding against sexual harassment and punishment for harassment.
Dr Orifoworan of faculty of law of the institution emphasized on the  difference of sexual harassment and indecent exposure.

At the congress, it was identified that harassment could be from either sex.

Dr. Moha, one of the discusser said that "female students would be flocking around some lecturers, parading their offices and she wondered what they are looking for"

However, Prof. Adeyanju cleared the air that their is no way female students wouldn't have cause to visit the male lecturer but the lecturer have just to be disciplined enough.

Different speakers from various faculty including the faculty of law, faculty of Agriculture amidst others addressed the diverse perspectives  of sexual harassment on the side of both men and women.

Their resolution include creating  awareness, boomeranging and implementing the social policy, ensuring justice at reported cases, empowering the female students,decent dressing code uphold, having an emergency line for female students , planting remote cameras in offices,  and the leadership of the University taking forefront in exposing perpetrators

While some emphasised on the importance of decent against indecent dressing, others enlightened the students on breaking the silence advising students to speak up when they are sexually harrassed instead of silently suffer from the trauma it would bring.

Miss Adesola emphasised on their self-esteem and value with should not be reduced by any patrachal ego and subjugation. Dr. Fasiku added that dereliction of duty is the bottom line of all form of absurdities in the university system.

An interactive session was declared for the audience to ask questions and share personal experiences.

During the session, both lecturers and students shared opinions on sexuality and harassment emphasising on the "culture of silence" the power of self assertiveness and the need to always be self equipped as female students.

Eid: FG Declares Tuesday, Wednesday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 21 and Wednesday 22, as public holidays to mark the 2018 Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement in Abuja on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Mohammed Umar.

He enjoined Nigerians to use the period to embrace the virtues of love and sacrifice for the unity and development of the nation.

Dambazau called on Nigerians both at home and abroad to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari “in its determination to ensure a peaceful and united Nigeria.”

 The minister wished Nigerians a happy Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

NUESA Suspends President, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Clerk.

On the grounds of constitutional aberration, wrong Disbursement of funds andfor undermining  the power of the parliament, The OAU's Nigerian Universities Education Students' Association through the Education Students Representative Council has suspended her President,Financial Secretatry,Treasurer and Welfare Director.

The President (Gaberial okunori(Goggy) ), financial secretary( Kehinde Ademola) and the treasurer, charles johnson, were accorded 3 weeks suspension  while the welfare director Bamisaye oluwaposi has 24hours ultimatum to write an apology letter to the parliament.
However, Ebeh grace, the clerk was placed on an indefinite suspension.


A retouch in EDB, a class room in education was said to have been renovated without properly following the necessary process as stated in the constitution. The undue process  majorly includes the  disbursement of #175,500 without the  approval of the parliamentary.

Although this work  was generally commended, the  means still could not totally justify it end at the parliamentary sitting held yesterday.


A suspension lasting for 3 weeks for the president, Financial secretary and the treasurer was the outcome of the meeting as to the effect of the using unapproved funds to sort the inadequacies of class rooms which include the provisions of  bulbs and wirings in lecture rooms within the faculty of education.

Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency, a member of the parliament who pleaded animosity stated that although the suspension was to include the welfare director but was however considered at the discretion of the speaker majorly for the distribution of souvenirs to students which was to be done in a week time and also because the issues was lesser on his own side.

More so the grounds had led not just to the  suspension but also to the division of the body into two independent  groups with parliamentarians on one side and the suspended executives on the other.

However the suspended executives affirmed that although they were truly guilty of constitutional aberration as accused, the Interest of the association is highly respected.

 Reacting to the suspension while speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency,  the embattled president, Gabriel okunori affirmed that the work was unduely carried out but there was an urgent need of the work for the benefits of the NUESITEs 

"Before now, the EDB has been without light and students have been demanding for it,
So we went to the previous Dean.
He asked if we had the money, we replied yes, thinking we could afford the money Only for us to find out that money was too high and so we were trying to run away from it until the dean was changed and the issue came up again last week Friday".

He added that "This thing had to be done so we sent a letter to the house last week friday and that's a lapse on our own part.
We were walking on it, thinking that the house would approve it  but unfortunately, we did it even before the letter  got to the notice of the house  and that is truly constitutional aberration.
The house would feel its power has been undermined but we did not feel that way, we were working for the congressmen.
They are right to say we undermine their power but the truth is we did it.

It's a two way thing, I either remain in office for the next three weeks without having the lights fixed and NUESITES would not be able to read or I stay away from office and the rooms are lit, so weighing the two options I think I would rather be away from office for the students to do good". The president said.

Speaking with OAU peeps news agency, the welfare director, Bamisaye Oluwaposi added that although they might have made mistakes trying to seek the progress of the faculty, the team have no regrets, they have pledged to serve the NUESITEs by giving them the best.

"The EDB has been the main reason for the suspension but it is better for us to be suspended and the NUESITEs should enjoy, our watchword since we assumed office is "NUESITES deserve the best"
I just want everyone to know that the suspended executives would come back stronger". He stated.

How We Read Over 50 books In Six Months

 recently shared on my WhatsApp story about how I had read over 50 books just in the first half of 2018 and amidst all of the hailing about how my parents wanted a child and they gave birth to a book instead and how I was the ‘Omowe of Iwe Land’, one significant question was on the lips of everyone, “Babe, how on earth did you do it?”
Quite frankly, there was no jazz; neither was juju involved (trust me). I didn’t need to conjure incantations; neither did it require the head of a tortoise and the speed of a deer. For me, the very first step was being a book lover. I had always been fascinated by anything in prints since I was little. I mean, ANYTHING IN PRINTS; from magazines to newspapers to billboard advertisements, to my father’s Accounting textbooks (although, I still don’t understand all of the Accounting mumbo-jumbo. It confuses me), but yeah, you get the gist already. So, loving books and opening them up came easy.
Call me traditional, but I also was a sucker for hardcopy books any day. I love(d) the feel of a book in between my hands; the smell of the book so close to my face; the feeling of excitement as I flip(ped) the page, curious about what came next. My love for hardcopy books has died down to a large extent though (*insert crying face here*). The world has gone digital. Besides, as an Environmental enthusiast, it would make more sense to go softcopy than fell innocent trees to make beautiful books, right? (*insert grin here*). I joined a WhatsApp group early this year that was solely dedicated to the act of sharing books and I would say that has greatly enlarged my library of books; softcopy books at that, and it has helped a whole lot. So, people, not all WhatsApp pages are for broadcasting ‘send-this-to-7-people-and-receive-a-surprise-in-7mins’ messages – some are dedicated to a noble cause.
Answering the question of how I was able to read that not-so-many-books in such a short time, was basically the combination of loving books and having so many books to read (over 500 of them on my PC). Creating time to read those books wasn’t hard. In fact, I didn’t have to think about it or plan it into my schedule or anything. There was always time for a book, no matter how short it was or how busy I was. I read them in the bus (whilst looking up momentarily to check if the bus hasn’t driven passed my bus stop), I read them while waiting for my next lecture to begin, I read them when I am about to go to bed or basically, when I am less busy. See, it isn’t juju, is it? (*insert grin here again*).
I have had many people come up to me, lamenting about how reading books isn’t just their thing. I totally understand. But I am a hundred percent sure there is something that interests everyone. If yours is politics, begin with political books. If you are more inclined to read books on greatness or success, be my guest and start with those. Set a target if you have to. Say: One book per week or one per month. No rush. So, begin with books that catch your fancy before weaning yourself from them to delve into the hidden treasures of the other genres. I hope this inspires you in some way. Send this to 7 people and see what happens in 7 months (#wink)

Toyin has said a larger percentage of things I would have said, and I decided to feature her because she was one of those who inspired me-as at my 39th book, she had read 50 already, so just a few additions.

Hilarious as it may sound, I didn’t start out with the agenda to read 50 books although I was supposed have finished reading 50 books by December according to Michael Inioluwa Oladele, so I would start by talking about your community. Who are your friends? Your close colleagues, classmates and what do you talk about? I can’t remember the last time I downloaded a book, I sometimes just check my WhatsApp folders and see that there are new books thanks to the groups I am , my friends and those on my contact list.

If you are a Lagosian-traffic is your best friend; I understand how frustrating traffic in Lagos can be, as a matter of fact I have taken a bike from V.I to Oshodi before then took another bike to Iyana-ipaja cause I wanted to beat traffic(Please don’t ask how much I spent) but as a Lagosian , you just have to factor in traffic into your schedule you cannot spend about three to four hours on the road daily and not be able to account for any, my secret? I plan each book I want to read, as a matter of fact I have finished a whole book inside a traffic before (it was a 235 page novel by dee Henderson) . This might not work for students, but trust me, everyone has a spare time, in between classes, before lecturer arrives etc. It’s the same way you find time to read James Hadley Chase, Sidney Sheldon and Mills and Boons, our heart is always at what we cherish, so why don’t you cherish what would add value to you?

KAIZEN: Kaizen is a Japanese philosophy I came across recently while reading, it means continuous improvement in all things and so for the second half of the year, beyond reading, I plan to strategically read books that has to do with my career, area of interest and things I am passionate about, I hope you make such decisions too. The beautiful thing about reading is that you don’t really know how much you have learnt until a circumstance requires the knowledge you have acquired, or a situation requires a solution that you have read somewhere.
Etched in my memory is the day we had a foreign guest in our fellowship, she was the daughter of one our fellowship alumnus, who though was born in Nigeria, grew up abroad, spending time between the UK and US. She wanted to do a 12 weeks externship in an African hospital and chose Nigeria, her mother’s root in particular so her mum brought her to the fellowship for proper monitoring since she won’t be around with her. A lot of people found it hard to sustain a conversation with her thanks to her deep British cum American intonation so someone called me(if you know me, you’d know striking captivating conversation is a forte), to come and meet her since we were technically namesakes, so I gladly accepted the challenge(I had been admiring her from afar anyway) We started the conversation slowly and got steadily deeper, I asked her where in U.S she lived, she looked at me with all politeness and asked, Where do I know in the US,I asked her to try me, and she asked if I knew Connecticut. I replied with a hearty yes, told her Connecticut was one of the six New England states, that it shared border with Massachusetts by the North, Rhodes Island to the East and New York to the south, she was stunned!!!, she gave me a happy hi-five and we became friends immediately(we are still friends) . I learnt all I told her from John Grisham, Karen Kingsbury and Francine Rivers, I am certain you can witness to the fact that these authors explore different cities in their books. On our first hang-out, I told her about her school(She finished from Wellesley college) I told her about Chimamanda’s graduation speech and how their college MIGHT produce the first female US president, Hillary Clinton, she was in awe, and her respect and admiration for me increased exponentially, I learnt everything I told her from reading, there was no magic. If you take time to study intelligent around you, they are ardent readers, so won’t you love you join this league?
You might have to pick a reading partner, do a one book, one month thing, find a book club or any other method that works for you, but reading is one of the best activity you could embark on as it makes you rub mind with people you might ever meet…so keep reading, keep writing.

OAU Celebrates Economics Professor As He Retires From Service

The department of Economics department of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife has  today commemorated with Prof. Joseph Ajibola Faboyo.

The celebration which filled the air, filled the Faculty of law's Moot and Mock court of the institution to the Brim.

The Students, lecturers and the Non-teaching staff of departments celebrate with the lecturer on his retirement at the faculty of  Law's New Moot and Mock Court.

While speaking at the event, The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof Ogunbodede congratulated the celebrant as a fulfilled lecturer.

"As a fulfilled lecturer without shady record, I congratulate you. Forty-eight years in Service is not a joke nor child's play".

He exemplified the Don as a good picture for representation of hardwork and Integrity as well as a good teacher to many other.

The Chairman Committee of Deans and Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Niyi Aluko describes Prof. Fabayo as " teacher, A person that doesn't discriminate and a councilor. He's very friendly with Students"

Friends, colleagues, lecturers and Students from other Universities also congratulated the Don through their various commentaries at the event.

The celebrant, professor Fabayo in his words of appreciation to everyone that came far and near to celebrate with him.

I need to thank Everyone here present here today to celebrate with me on my seventieth Birthday and retirement ceremony.
