No More Lies, WhatsApp Knows Where You Are.

WhatsApp users can now share their movements in real-time in the world's most popular chat app. Quoted from the express page, this newest feature of WhatsApp is called Live Location, and lets users track their chat partners’ movement for 30 minutes, an hour or eight hours at a time.

Previously, WhatsApp has allowed users to share their location as stationary places on a map. Now, when a user selects Live Location, the user’s friends can see their location on the map, which is automatically updated as they move.

WhatsApp has stated that its new feature is "a simple and safe way to let people know where you are".
The end-to-end location is encrypted – similar to messages, photos, videos and files you send in WhatsApp – which should remove some users' fears about this feature.
In addition, you can also choose to terminate the sharing of location prematurely before the end of the specified time period.

WhatsApp intended the Live Location feature to be very useful for someone who is trying to meet a friend, or at least letting a loved one know that they are safe or just sharing a journey.

To get started, turn on the location settings or GPS. Then, open WhatsApp conversations with the people or groups you want to share with. Under Location on the install button, there's a new option for Live Location Sharing or Share Live Location.
WhatsApp will then ask you to choose how long you want to share your GPS data.

Once you have decided, just click the Send button.
Everyone in your selected chats can now see your real-time location on the map.
And if more than one person shares their Live Locations in a group chat, all locations will be visible on the same map.
The Live Location update is available on Android and iPhone and will be available in the coming weeks.

Buhari and His Government Have Bastardised the Nation's Economy - Mr Tope Fasua.

The CEO of Global Analytics Consulting Limited has appreciated the presence of future generation leaders stating that

The Annual Economics students' Conference(AESC) organized by the Nigerian Economics Students' Association (NESA) could be tagged as the conglomeration of Economics and Accounting students across Nigeria. In attendance were students from numerous universities who sent delegates to grace the conference at Oduduwa Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.

Mr Tope fasua who also had with him in attendance, Prof Akinbobola, Mr Dolapo Oni (Energy research Ecobank), Dr Paul Alaje (The former OAU Students' union president) amidst other top notch personalities posited that Buhari and his government do not manage the country's economy in a balanced form as there's much mismanagement of fund and rise in external debt. He further stated that Nigeria is owing 19.6 trillion naira which is directly proportional to the bastardisation of the nation's economy and hardships which average Nigerians are facing.

Also the CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya stated that the issue facing technology and finance has been a major bewilder to the African economy.
Mr Femi Osilaja, Regional Operational Director who represented the CEO of Airtel Nigeria, while Speaking on 'Roles of Technology and Finance in Economic Development of Africa', portrayed the present generation as a Technological Generation where technology has taken up over 80℅ of labour. In his words,
"Technical knowledge for vast and fast growth in a county's economy has increased the productivity of labour and has reduced stress in work forces around the world including Africa'.

He posited further that reasons for the rise in profit maximisation in businesses remain on improvement of managerial skills.
He reminiscend back to the introduction of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) into the Nigerian Banking System, where machines took up over 75% of banking jobs. He went on to charge Nigerian Accounting Students to ruminate and make proper arrangements on how they could face the challenges which technology has caused.
"Both Technology and Economy are vital for entrepreneurship especially for SMEs. They have helped to override those causes of some unreliability in the past, but today's generation must be prepared to face off the challenge with it's (technology) disadvantage on the side. Remember goods and services can be procurred online which was not so in the olden days. This new technology has deprived humans of their strategic positions..."

He rounded up his speech by saying that developing a capable future generation has to be balanced by equipping them with proper technical orientation flanked with a balanced economy
"The quality of education in sub Saharan coast is a big issue. But Economy and Technology can pave the way out..."

In his own quota speech to the conference, Former Student Union President OAU, Dr Paul Alaje speaking on 'Becoming 21st Century Human Resources', gave an insight on facts, checks and figures on some keynote issues in Nigeria as Technology has made a mess of knowledge.

Dr Paul who discribed The coming generation has a telecommunication generation in opposite to the present talking generation stated that the world economy is revolving in line with technology as demarcations of any form cannot bewilder it's growth.

He ended his speech by making it known to the conference attendees that 21st century employers employ only those that can help them to solve problems as all ceteris is not paribus.

The conference saw a huge turnout from students and other members of the academic community as well as the general public. It is slated to continue tomorrow at the same venue.

Former OAU SU President Shines As Law School Releases Results

A former Students’ Union President of Obafemi Awolowo University, Isaac Motunrayo Ibikunle outshined among many others in the graduating set of 2017 Law school.

The Nigerian Law School on Saturday released the summary of the final examination results conducted in August.

Chinedu Ukekwe, Head of Information and Protocol of the Nigerian Law School, in a statement said 1,272 candidates failed out of a total of 5,891 that participated in the examinations. The candidates who failed represented 21.6 per cent.

“29 students made First Class, 211 Second Class Upper, 1,046 Second Class Lower.”

He said 2,999 got a Pass, while 334 came out with conditional Pass.

4,285 candidates were successful and will be called to the Nigerian Bar.

A further breakdown of the results showed 72.7 per cent passed, while those with conditional Pass represented 5.7 per cent.

Ukekwe in the statement revealed that the “Call to the Bar ceremony for the successful candidates will hold on
November 28 and 29 in Abuja”.

Among the few Second Class Upper is the former union leader of OAU, Ibikunle as he made this known on his social media account on Saturday.

OAU Peeps Inducts New Members

An organization that fails to build its future from the present, has lost it already. In order to secure its future, OAU PEEPS News Agency recruited some students in the OAU Community in order to continue its legacy and existence on campus on the 21st day of October 2017. The induction program which had in attendance notable campus journalists and also some graduates from the University took place at Eden, New Buka and began proper at about 11:30am with opening prayer said by one of the inductees. Introductions were made by Ayantayo-Ojo Damilola, the Head of the Recruitment Committee. The President and Editor-in-Chief, in person of Mr. Jesujoba Ojelabi was then invited to the podium to give an insight and a welcome address.
In his welcome address, he urged the recruits to be committed and dedicated to the task ahead of them, intimating them of the challenges which they are bound to face in the course of disseminating their duties in service to the public. He ended his address by urging them to work hard in whatever they find themselves doing in order to be the best.

An invited guest in person of Mr. Adejumo Kabir, a renowned campus journalist, columnist and reporter delivered a speech on “Journalism”. In his presentation, he defined journalism as “holding powers accountable”. He reiterated the fact that journalists should be able to keep powers in check at all times and must be accountable to the masses by providing them with the truth in every information. Further in his presentation, he urged the recruits not to be intimidated by threats or ill borne towards them in the course of discharging their duties. He also added that devotion of time and commitment to whatever one does, guarantees success.

Another guest speaker, a former Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Publications) of the News Agency in person of Mr. Oyetunji Ridwan who graduated from the department of Botany gave a presentation on the topic “Journalism in OAU”. He noted the challenges that could face someone who is into campus journalism. He gave an insight on how to overcome those challenges and be a credible writer and reporter on campus. One of the challenges identified by him was the challenge of multi-tasking. He noted that many people could not prioritise their activities on a daily basis and thereby failed in the course of the job. He also made it clear that commitment and passion is key to being proficient and successful in campus journalism. In conclusion of his presentation he urged them to be credible writers and reporters in whatever they write or report.

The last speaker in person or Mr. Lukmon Fasasi, a graduate of Management and accounting spoke on “Journalism and the Internet”. In the course of his presentation, he discussed the “new media” in the world of journalism today. In his speech he described the new media as leveraging the internet alongside journalism. He enjoined the recruits not to close their eyes to happenings in the social media community. He added that for a successful journalism career in the 21st century, one has to involve the use of internet and social platforms.

After all the presentations, the induction oath was taken by the recruits which was overseen by the EIC. The closing remark and vote of thanks was taken by one of executives of the News Agency. The program ended in a wonderful atmosphere, pictures taken and refreshment served.

Lambasted Emeralds: How Our Precious Stone Became A Pebble…

Love, like many other issues of the heart, is a complex yet simple phenomenon. There have been many schools of thought that have come to state that its control is not totally with man: That we cannot decide who or when to love, it just happens. And indeed, I remember that in my years in the Obafemi Awolowo University, never had I seen so many people love one lady so and interestingly, it was for no good reason. Jacob Oluwatosin had come to contest for office at a time when even the walls did not know her name. She had been a representative of the Faculty of Law at the Hallowed Chambers before then but only few cared to know, not when her competition were both former officials of the Hall Executive Council. However, it would seem that all she needed to do to change the mind of the great Ife was hold the microphone at Oduduwa Hall. Interestingly and very unusually, I was unable to attend the Debate of the elections that brought in the people’s precious stone but even I began to notice the unusual surge that came in her polls immediately after the Debate. I do not know what she did or did not say but whatever it was, it worked so well that Emerald did not have to do anything after that event; not even say a thing at the manifesto declaration. The chants of her name were everywhere and at some point, speculations started to come that this was no ordinary love and although I might not agree with whatever context the speculations might have risen from, only a fool would have disputed that that love was not extraordinary. 

 I have seen leaders fail, I have seen leaders succeed but only a few have I seen that truly stood out at the job. Many have asked what has brought about my catholic silence on the current leadership of the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union and my response has remained fairly the same: There is so much noise and so little talk. Somehow, we never truly let people fail before we call them failures. Even though the temptation to jump into that conclusion is quite high but these days, everybody wants to talk and nobody want to listen. It’s why idealists would in their surreal perspectives grow so distant from reality that they become the very opposite of it. But maybe another day, I would share my thoughts on ideals and their realistic workability. For today, like many others, I just want to try to understand how a precious stone became a pebble that the very ones who used to polish now walk upon. 

A whole semester happened and we would not here anything major from the Vice President. All we would know were a stale Fresher’s week and a couple of bland articles. But even they were pardonable, after all, power did need some adapting to. But then a bottle broke and along with it a couple of hearts, not just because our gracious lady had come to level of bottle brawls and things of the sort but also for the detestable photographs of her battery that accompanied that event and then we happened; the gentlemen of the press seeking another juicy story. Amidst all of the plenty stories that surfaced, we never really could find the truth but one thing is apparent from the events that followed: In all the lambasting that happened at the Students’ Union Building that night, there was only one victim. The question then remains who the victimizer was: Herself or him?
