By Farombi Oluwaseun

The Students Union  of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State on Monday, demanded for the unconditional reinstatement of the recently suspended students.

The Students are OMOLE,Ibukun Ayodele, with the registration number CVE/2011/042 of the Department of Civil Engineering; JACOB,Tosin Grace, with the registration number LAW/2012/153 of the faculty of Law; UDEH,  John with the registration number ASE/2015/362 Of the department of Arts and Social Sciences and OLUWALADE, Babatunde with the registration number EGL/2014/431 of the Department of English

Addressing a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Correspondents’ Chapel, the Students Union President, Ibukun Oyekan, said the suspended students did not commit any criminal offences as claimed by the school management.

Dr. IBK as popularly called stated that all the vandalization claims of the school management were all lies.

According to him “The leadership of Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union and the entire students of the University hereby use this medium to vehemently condemn the illegal and unjustifiable suspension of four undergraduate and two postgraduate students respectively of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife by the University Management.

“We use this medium to debunk lies and subterfuges that have been made against our members. It must be clearly asserted at this point in time that students only embarked on a peaceful protest and what followed was their indefinite suspension from the University.

“On the foregoing, the Union hereby demand immediate and unconditional reinstatement of both undergraduate and postgraduate students that were suspended by the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

“We demand an end to era of victimization of students activists on campus on account of expression of their grievances and dissatisfaction over the current state of Obafemi Awolowo University campus

He further  demanded the University Management to call the leadership of  Postgraduate Hall as well as Great Ife Students’ Union to a round table discussion which must lead to quick, immediate and unconditional reinstatement of students on suspension among other issues..

However, the University management through a release obtained by OAU Peeps News Agency and signed by University Registrar, D.O. Awoyemi stated that the four students were suspended for criminal activities, breach of the code of conduct of the university community and violation of their matriculation oath. The release further stated that the students suspended are not first offenders. The university management stated that the suspension was necessary as they had no option than to take decisive action to forestall a total breakdown of law and order.

The University further drew the attention of the community to some NON STUDENTS like  Osungbade Akeem Olaboye(AK-WIZDOM) who had been withdrawn from the university on account of his poor academic performance and Olawale Ogunruku,a diploma graduate who had refused to leave the university premises, causing nuisance & threat to public peace and stated they have been reported to the security agencies for appropriate actions.

The University management  concluded by  advising law abiding students to concentrate on their studies and shun any act or utterance that is capable of elongating the academic calendar beyond the stipulated period..

OAU SU: Budget Sitting Set To Hold Tommorow

OAU SU: Budget Sitting Set To Hold Tommorow
By Farombi Oluwaseun

The Budgetary and Finance committee, Great Ife Students Union has finally submitted the 75-page  budget  for this parliament year to the Students Representative Council. The budget which has been fully reviewed contains the budget of all Union Councils (Hall Executive Council, Judicial Council & Central Executive Council), Committees (Select Committee, Submit Committee  & Budgetary and Finance Committee) and Commission (Transport Management Commission), comprising    58 offices.

In an extensive interview with the Chairman, Budgetary and Finance Committee, Hon.  Oladebo Akinwale , He said the committee though faced with some complications due to the political atmosphere has tried their best to ensure accountability and transparency. He explained the budget sitting was late due to the fact that the committee was not constituted early enough as there was no immediate outgoing SRC members, therefore a responsibility of the current parliament to appoint members of the committee.

Speaking  further on the budget of the Vice President and President which was not fully reviewed,he explained that the budget of the office of Vice President could not be reviewed due to the clash between the Vice President (Jacob Tosin) and Director of Socials( Adedayo Emmanuel) . The Vice President could not appear before the committee for her presentation before the suspension given to her and the Director of Socials. However , the budget of the  office of Director of Socials has been reviewed weeks before the suspension.. The Office of the President’s budget according to him could not be fully reviewed due to the pandemonium between the Students Union President(Oyekan Ibukun) and a member of the committee(Hon. Koye-Ladele Mofehintoluwa).

He ended by thanking all the committee members starting from the Secretary(Hon. Chukwuka Maryann) and other (Hon. Temikel, Hon. Pchaun, Hon. Koye, Hon. TM and Hon. Lekan.)
The final ratification of the budget has been scheduled to hold tomorrow, October 14,2017 at Awo Café by 10am.
