All Federal Universities To Pay The Same Fees - FG

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has said the Federal Government will harmonise tuition in all federal universities to stop arbitrary charge of fees by some university authorities.

Adamu, made this known while fielding questions on the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said, “Since the protests started, we have summoned the authorities of the universities and sat down with them and we are going to harmonise everything.

“Because, I think it is N45,000 that is the maximum that should be charged. I know in some places, there has been other arrangement.

“But the ministry would harmonise everything and I believe there will be no more protests over fees.”

The Universities of Lagos, Ibadan and Port Harcourt were recently shut down following students’ protests over increase in fees, lack of water and power supply on the campuses.

Adamu said that the Federal Government was discussing with management of the affected universities, adding that efforts were also ongoing to introduce harmonised fees for all federal universities.

Become A Rock Star With Jiji.ng

If you are interested in music, you probably know that the majority of the most famous musicians haven’t finished musical schools, and some of them never took classes for learning how to play. Nevertheless, they have created so much great music! It gives you hope, doesn’t it? Actually, a good musical instrument is sometimes all you need. It doesn’t matter what you’ve just thought about – a guitar, a piano, drums, keyboard, a violin, a trumpet – open Musical Instruments on Jiji.ng, and you will find even more than that.

If you haven’t used the website before, you’ll be curious about what Jiji is. Everything is simple: it is the best shopping spot in Nigeria. Jiji is a classifieds website, which remains something in between ordinary newspaper classifieds and usual market. The only difference is that now it all functions in the web space. Thanks to this, Jiji and all its ads are available all over the country. What is more, ads are posted only by real people, who can do it for free. This leads to another improvement: sellers don’t have to pay for a counter as on the market or for every printed line as in a newspaper. No wonder that the website is getting more and more popular.

One more thing that is probably going to pleasantly surprise you is that Jiji doesn’t sell anything personally. This website collects ad and offers from real people from all over the country and helps them to sell by creating proper conditions. It means users interests are our priority, not personal profit. That’s the reason you should think about whether Jiji is a shopping spot worth visiting or not. This is a service, which will help you to become a musician you want to be (or at least support you).

The Beautiful Thing About Change - Pope Jay

The Political atmosphere of Nigeria was quite tense in the year 2015 courtesy of the rather delicate general elections and the improved reflection of the people’s decision in the electoral results. The All Progressives Congress, which was the party to beat, gained prominence as the party won a number of powerful seats across all levels in the country. I believe the APC’s ascendancy was partially as a result of the desperate need for an alternative to the rather “stale” People’s Democratic Party.
The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, the then President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, had spent 6 years as President, not forgetting that the PDP itself had been the ruling party since the dawn of the new democratic dispensation in 1999. This in itself was enough reason for Nigerians to want to try any alternative considering the declining state of the country within that period. Then the All Progressive Congress came up with just what Nigerians sought: The Change Song. The party, which at the time had already started to gain some grounds in the South West courtesy of some of the works of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) , Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (In his first term as Governor) and some of its other party members, quickly adopted the change mantra and started to portray themselves not just as the Change Nigerians sought but also as the Change Nigeria needed.
Fast forward to a year later, it appears it is either the Change that APC about was not positive or the administration is yet to bring forth this change, as the situation of the Nigerian Economy has jumped from the frying pan to the fire that burns beneath. As expected, members of the Peoples Democratic party have started to come forth with the ‘’I told you so” face; blaming Nigerians for the choice she made in 2015 and claiming that her candidate would have done better. Maybe he would... maybe he wouldn’t have, that is for the witches in my village to know

However, I feel a lot of Nigerians miss a very important fact: The fact that the APC has adopted the slogan “change” does not mean they can not be changed. In fact, I feel now is the time to emphasize to everybody who claims to be an agent of change not to get too comfortable in any office he is holding until Nigerians are actually convinced that they are who they claim to be. I understand that the power of recall and impeachment are not as democratic as they should be in Nigeria yet but then again, you would be surprised at how fast four years can pass.
Some State Elections are already upon us and I would not be surprised if some of our “Agents of Change” are changed maybe then people would start to learn one of the most beautiful things about this change of a thing: Change is nobody’s Father’s Name!

OAU Wins 3rd Edition Of NISD

Temitayo Lasisi (200L, Public Administration) and Omirin Emmanuel Kayode (300L, Law) have won the third edition of the Nairaland Interschool Debate for Obafemi Awolowo University after edging past their colleagues from the ‘Better By Far’ University; the University of Ilorin.

In a fiercely contested intellectual battle on Sunday evening, OAU came top with grand total points of 74.5 as against 68.5 polled by the runner-up. The Lagos State University had earlier gone past Ahmadu Bello University to clinch the third position.

The debate paraded wits from over 24 schools including University of Ibadan (UI), University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Benin (UNIBEN), Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), amongst others. This edition marks the greatest feat of team OAU as it has maintained the third position in the two previous editions.

Also, Temitayo, a representative of the OAU team became the best debater thereby winning among several prices an invite to JarusHub Networking Event - an avenue to meet and dine with some Lagos professionals in a top restaurant in Lagos.

We say congratulations to the team!
