By Ayomide Emmanuel

The Obafemi Awolowo University Community has been thrown into chaos at the late hours of Tuesday 11th, 2023 following the death of one Okolie Ahize of the Department of Civil Engineering who was reportedly beaten to death.

In what seems to be a situation of shifting blame, the Central Executive Of The Union in a Press Release from the office Of the President state that the Union condemned the death of a Part 5 students who was assaulted in a mob action at Awo Hall. Speaking further, the President said Arrests and investigation of individuals suspected to be connected with the assault of the deceased are being made for consequent legal action as the Union dos not support mob actions and justice must be served.

Similarly, the Awolowo Hall of Residence also released a Press Release to address the issue. While it was acknowledged by the Awolowo Hall Executives that the apprehended guy was mobbed at Awolowo Hall but he was walked into the Students' Union Building aided and was apparently fine.

As it stands now, neither the Central Executive Council and Awolowo Hall Of Residence Executive are ready to take the blame for the death of Arinze.

Consequently, in reaction to the incident, the administration of  Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has condemned, in strong terms, the incidence that led to the death of a part 5 student of the institution.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that reliminary investigation revealed that the student died of a mob action on the allegation that he stole a phone.

Saddened by this ugly development which he described as unfortunate, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, has set up a committee to unravel the circumstances that led to this incident.

The action of the mob, being a violation of the law of the country and of the University regulations,  has been reported  to the police who have commenced investigations.

The University administration hereby commiserates with the parents of the deceased, staff and students, and prays that God will grant us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Students are strongly admonished to desist from taking laws into their hands and to report any criminal activities to the University authorities for immediate actions.

OAU Denies Recruitment Processes

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has debunked a conversation online about an alleged staff recruitment exercise going on in the university.

The university revealed it is not currently recruiting any staff at the moment.

This was disclosed in a statement titled “BEWARE OF SCAMMERS: OAU IS NOT RECRUITING”, released by the University spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, on Sunday, and made available to OAUPeeps News Agency.

The attention of the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been drawn to a conversation online about an alleged staff recruitment exercise currently going on in the University. The said conversation is not only false but devilish, malicious and a pure scam.

We, therefore, want the general public, most especially those desperately in need of employment, to know that Obafemi Awolowo University is NOT on any staff recruitment exercise for now.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that OAU, as an academic institution, does not engage in secret or clandestine employment, neither would it's Vice Chancellor or any other Principal Officers of the University ask an applicant for any monetary or material gratification.

In fact, our staff recruitment exercise always follows due process : we place vacancies advertisement in two widely read National Dailies and the same will be displayed on the University website. Please, also note that we do not engage the services of an outsider for our staff recruitment exercise.

In view of this, the general public should disregard, in its entirety, the contents of the conversation, and that OAU does not advert it's staff recruitment exercise on the social media.

The University does not know nor have any relationship whatsoever with any nebulous Dr. Williams Abah. Therefore, anything done or purportedly done on behalf of the University or its Vice Chancellor by the so called Dr. Williams Abah, with GSM number 0802 129 4368, has nothing to do with the University.

Any person or group of persons who transacts, or has transacted any business with him in the name of the University does so at their own risk.

After series of court sessions held by the Judicial council of the Union, the council in its ruling  today, December 13, 2022 reinstated the speaker of the Great Ife Student’s Union in a court sitting that was held at the Ken Saro Building earlier

The court sitting comprised seven justices including the Lord Chancellor, Hon. Justice Abiodun Adesanya, MC.

While delivering the lead judgment that was signed by the Lord Chancellor, Justice Adedapo Taiwo declared that the congressional resolution of Great Ife Student’s Union that birthed the suspension of Mr. Ajadi Toheeb as the speaker of the Great Ife Student’s Representative Council is Unconstitutional, illegal and void.

He further declared that Mr. Ajadi Toheeb is hereby reinstated as the speaker of the Great Ife Student’s Representative Council and should resume work with immediate effect.

The Judicial Council also declared that the entitlement of Mr. Ajadi Toheeb since the 30th of November 2022 should be given and returned to him with immediate effect.

The counsel to Mr. Ajadi Toheeb had earlier argued on three issues all bordering on the unconstitutionality and nullity of the congress and his suspension before the court finally declared that he should be reinstated as the speaker.
