The Oduduwa Hall situated at the heart of the Africa's most beautiful campus was filled to the brim on Wednesday, 7th June 2017 as top-notch personalities of the institution, Staff and Students of the institution were in attendance at the inauguration ceremony of Professor E. Ogunmodede, the 11th Substasive Vice-Chancellor Chancellor of the institution. Also in attendance was the Oonirisha of Ile-ife, HEM Ooni Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja 2.

In his address, which radiated the same ecstasy as the audience, the Ooni described the emergence of the new Vice-Chancellor as a divine incident and gave kudos to the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi, for overseeing the fair and transparent process, not bending to the intense pressure from external forces. The Ooni, went on to describe Ogunbiyi as a man of integrity and impeccable character.

Also in acknowledgement of the work of the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, the ruler of the Ile-ife town appreciated Professor Anthony Elujoba who is also a son of Ile-ife. The Ooni went on to charge people present to handle whatever they had their hands doing very well as it was indeed everyone is given a divine responsibility from the creator. In his words, the Ooni asked rhetorically; "What will people say about you when you stop working?"

The new Vice-Chancellor also in his address appreciated the Ooni and every other person present sighting some of his experiences in the process of becoming Vice-Chancellor. He sought the support of everyone present while sharing some of his ideas in repositioning the Obafemi Awolowo University. Elujoba Bows Out In Grand Style, Apologises To Students For Things He Could Not Do

It was an unusual ceremony on Wednesday, 7th June 2017 at the Oduduwa Hall of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife as for the first time in a long while, there was a peaceful transition of power in the office of Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The University, which is about 55 years old, has been known to have a dramatic history when it comes to the process of selecting and inaugurating its leaders, most especially in recent years. It therefore seemed to many a divine occurrence when Anthony Elujoba, a Professor of Pharmacognosy at the institution emerged as its Acting Vice-Chancellor as a result of the alleged flaws in the previous processes to select a leader for the institution which had led to intense protests from some the Unions in the University.

However, barely a year after, Professor Anthony Elujoba has handed over the office to Professor Eyitope Ogunmodede in what many students, staff and well-wishers regard as a monumental moment for the institution as intense emotions of joy were expressed at the performance of the Professor in maintaining peace in the institution.

However, Elujoba would go on in his valedictory speech to give all glory to God and appreciation to the University Community for their support. In his words, he appreciated all unions on campus for accepting him and his flaws and also religious organisations on campus for supporting him with prayers. He also appreciated the more recently appointed Pro-chancellor of the University, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi, who he claimed, alongside the governing council, played a major role in facilitating the transparent process that brought in the new Vice-Chancellor. He also in his speech apologised to the students present for the things he could not do.

He went on to charge the new Vice-Chancellor to continue the work in ensuring that the University takes her place in Africa and indeed the world.

Some other dignitaries present at the event were the Ooni of Ife, Alayeluwa Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi, Emeritus Professor David Ijalaye, Segun Oke, President of the Great Ife Alumni Worldwide, Emeritus Professor Wahab, Emeritus Professor Dibu Ojerinde, internal and external members of the Obafemi Awolowo University and some other school's Governing Council, Deans of Faculties and Provosts of Colleges and a number of other top profile personalities in the University and Society at large.

Angered Athletes Storm Akintola Hall, Chase Students Out Of Rooms

On the 31st of May 2017 at around 6:30pm, there was turmoil in the Ladoke Akintola Hall of the Obafemi Awlowo University, Ileife as her athletes stormed several rooms in the hall to chase out residents of the room with their belongings. The rooms affected were block M1, rooms 201 to 205 respectively as well as block W1, room 201 and 205. According to the athletes, these basis for their action was the allocation of bedspaces to non-athletes by the DSA.

The athletes therefore complained bitterly that spaces which ought to be allocated to them had been allocated to part 2 and part 3 students who were not athletes themselves and several attempts to complain to the DSA had proven abortive as their complaints had not been attended to.

An interview with one of the athletes revealed that 100 names are usually sent to the DSA but 50 spaces are allocated to them which makes them scot with each other. Therefore out of 5O slots, only four spaces were given out to them.

The furious athletes expressed their dissatisfaction as they explained that the President of the students union had failed to have a meeting with them.

Another athlete expressed her ordeal that the DSA has been so unfair to them in the recently concluded games where they represented the School as they had spent 17 hours on the road with no proper meals.

Now, their rights have been trampled upon.
During the protest, the President of the Student Union arrived at the scene to calm the athletes down and assured them that they would look into the matter.
At the scene, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Union, popularly addressed as Siewen, opined that the athletes had acted inhumane by chasing innocent students out of their hostel. He expressed that the problem was the management and not the students because they were allocated these spaces.
