Corruption Is A Killer And A Serious Disease - Oluwo Of Iwo Land

Oba Abdul Rasheed Akanbi has today said that the problem Nigerians are facing, especially youths is the thinking and philosophy we inherited from our fathers. He disclosed this In a program organised by the Law Students' Representative Council(LSRC) today at Oduduwa Hall, OAU.

While rendering his speech on the topic 'Building and Sustaining Viable Youth for the Society', the Oluwo of Iwo land kept the youths present on their toes by feeding them with his thoughtful speech. He stated that the prime problem Nigeria is facing is genocidal corruption which is a killer, as our leaders are also an element in appetising and whetting it's flame.
"I am ready to change the retrogressive path in our society as poverty and corruption has eaten us whole which we need to sermon our leaders to make Nigeria a corruption free nation nation..."

The King, who challenged the youth to seek for transfer of technology as their huge percentage in Nigerian population is a blessing and shouldn't be a curse. He pointed out the newly established factory in Aba where cars are been produced. He further urged the Nigerian leaders to procure and prioritise Nigerian made products as our economy is dwindling and dangling in the state of wreck.
He said that youths should shove any culture making humans their appropriation in sacrifice making to gods, as humans are the provider for gods and we are the god of gods and humans will always be a pawn in the chess game of their beliefs.

The program which saw in appearance various eminent Nigerians such as the Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdul Rasheed Akanbi[HRM], Jude Feranmi - the national youth leader KOWA party, Engr Y. Y. Sanni _ Chairman, Action Democratic party (ADP) as well as a 2015 Election Presidential Candidate, Chief Nda Isaah, Publisher, Ladership Newspaper and Barrister Ifedayo Olaonipekun amongst others.

In his speech, the National Youth Leader, KOWA Party, Jude Feranmi challenged youths on what they are doing to make Nigeria a great nation and their input to Nigerian systems. He said that despite the large ratio Nigerian youths take in the Nigerian population, Nigeria still suffers lack of innovation and 21st century development. He enjoined youths and students to develop the habit of thinking great and always have in mind that they are not the leaders of tomorrow but of today
"Nigerian youths puts their believe in the common saying that children are the leaders of tomorrow, let's stand on the stance that we the leaders of today as the old saying is one of the reasons why our leaders today tend to sit tight and believe tomorrow will always be tomorrow".
He finalised his speech by saying that today's youths are not a lost generation as they can do the right thing to make the country great and a place worth living in.

Engr Yusuf Sanni the chairman of ADP while speaking on the topic 'MULTI-PARTY SYSTEM AND VIRILE OPPOSITION: CATALYST FOR DEMOCRATIC DEVELOPMENT', stated that political parties emerged late after the 2^nd world war which has eventuated to a direct effect on Nigerian democracy and has shown that Nigeria is a worthwhile playing ground for true democratic settings.
He charged today's youth to shun the music of political apathy and use their full prowess and strength to build political parties that will project Nigeria's image in a good political form. He applauded the Law Students' Representative Council for organizing the program and enjoined other campus association to emulate the same to have an impact in making a better political future for today's youth.

OAU Suspends Transport Management Commission Chairman Indefinitely

OAU Peeps News Agency can confirm that a  student named Oluwalade Babatunde of Department of English,Faculty of Arts,OAU has been suspended indefinitely from the university community.. Mr Oluwalade Babatunde Popularly known as BabaTee and also the Chairman, Transport Management Commission of Great Ife Students Union received his  letter of suspension in the late hours of today Wednesday,October 11,2017..

In the letter obtained by the agency tagged "" Suspension from the University Pending Police Investigation of Your Criminal Activities "",  report received by the Vice Chancellor as stated by a part of the letter states "" On October 6th,2017 at 8:55am or thereabout, with some persons violently disrupted the academics and extracurricular activities of the University by forcefully chasing other students from Lecture halls under the guise of protesting an alleged unsatisfactory power supply to the campus. The Vice Chancellor has therefore ordered that  you should be suspended from the University in the interim,pending Police Investigations and until such time as the situation shall have been reviewed and resolved """.

Speaking with the University Public Relations Officer,Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju , He said "" the university has done what deem fit right"".
 The University Registrar ,Mr Dotun Awoyemi also on a chat with the news agency responded to the belief of students that a student has to face panel before suspension.. He clarified that  the University  Vice Chancellor can suspend any student  without facing any panel pending investigation to ensure discipline.

A Part of the letter further reads"" You are hereby ordered to vacate the university campus and are forbidden from participating in any activity of the university, whether within or outside the university campus. While the order of interim suspension subsists and until a written contrary directive is given to you by the Registrar, you should not be seen anywhere within the university campus,unless upon a formal written by the Registrar.."""

The Students Union President, Oyekan Ibukun (Dr. IBK)  in a release has however called for solidarity  stating  that the University Management has taken it too far by suspending some of our gallant and vibrant comrades for no known cause but what was cooked up to victimize him. NITDA Post-Graduate Scholarship Scheme 2017/2018

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has as its mandate to develop and regulate the Information Technology in Nigeria. Developing and regulating IT will support in transforming Nigeria into an IT driven economy for global competitiveness and the dire need of digital literacy.

The Agency has since 2010 established a scholarship scheme for Masters and Doctoral degree in relevant areas of Information Technology (IT) and ICT Law obtainable in Nigerian (Government and Private) Universities.

Criteria
The scholarship award is strictly based on merit and is evenly distributed between the six geo-political zones for the PhD, 36 States and FCT for MSc.

Eligibility (Nigerians):
PhD: Only University and Polytechnic Lecturers with MSc in any Information Technology related field are eligible to apply for sponsorship.
MSc: Holders of First Class or Second Class (Upper) Honours Bachelor’s degree, in Information Technology related field and Law.

The registration period is six (6) weeks from the date of the Newspaper publication.

A comprehensive Aptitude Test(s) will be conducted to determine successful candidates for the Award. Only candidates who are found eligible will be Shortlisted.

Duration
The sponsorship for the Masters programme will run for one year and the Doctorate programme for three years.

At the Convention of the National Association of Nigerian Campus Editors(NANCE) which held at the   National Union of Journalists NUJ Secretariat Hall, Oke Ilewo, Ile-Iweroyin, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Saturday, 7th of October 2017, The  tenure of Lukman Fasasi, from Obafemi Awolowo University ended . NANCE, the umbrella body of campus editors across the country held transition process which ushered new executives..

Speaking at the convention, The Ogun State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Chief Dayo Adeneye  urged campus editors on developmental journalism.  Chief Dayo, who was represented by Mr. Waheed Adeshina urged campus editors to work hard in their various institutions in order to represents all students with their pen. In his words, He said""Pen is indeed mightier than sword, you can make difference from school. Many of the mainstream media persons we have today started from school."

Also at the event, Odunayo Adams, the head of gossip desk at Naij.com who delivered the keynote on the topic: "Open Source Journalism and New Media" said that the social media platforms are enough tools for new media.

"With social media platforms, you can get all your sources. The things needed for you as a journalist is to fact check. Don't just use your social media platforms for uploading of pictures", she advised.

Also, Mr Bakene Nurain, the Public Relations Officer of Tai Solarin University of Education admonished the new executives to work towards making the association better.

Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Set Ablaze As A Result Of Students' Death

The Health Centre of the institution was set on fire by students of the institution on Saturday, 7th October 2017. From what we have been able to gather, the reason for the arson was the deaths of an HND 2 student of Estate Management and an ND 2 student of the Department of Architecture who both died in the State Hospital, Ifaki Ekiti after they were rejected by the Institution's Health centre because of their in ability to provide their Health centre cards.

The students' were preparing to write their Second Semester examinations which was scheduled to start on Monday, 9th of October, 2017 but was shifted to 16th of October, 2017, and were furious about the incident due to levity with which the Doctors and Nurses handled the issue.

They claimed that the students' who lost their lives were not given first aid treatment and the only thing the Health Centre did was give paracetamol to any kind of sickness. The HND 2 student who was said to be a Marshal Boss in the institution died as a result of ulcer.

It was also gathered that the issue of constant death had become a recurring issue for months as a result of negligence on the part of the Health Centre workers.
The school security officials that tried to calm the students were beaten to stupor by the students.

Students of the institution who are chanting "we no go gree" marched to the security unit to deal with them and to the school farm to pack and destroy fishes, chickens, eggs and other farm products.

Students' residing in the hostel have been told to leave the school premises with immediate effect as the Rector of the institution, Mrs. T. T Akande, through the school registrar has ordered the closure of the institution till further notice. Currently, Policemen have surrounded the whole institution.

NOTICE IN RESPECT OF 2017 POST-UTME EXERCISE

1. The FIRST RESULT SLIP printed was based on an AGGREGATE SCORE.
2. The POST-UTME AGGREGATE SCORE is computed as follows:
   • A = UTME-SCORE(over 400) divided by 8
   • B = TOTAL O-LEVEL SCORE divided by 5
   • C = TOTAL POST-UTME SCORE

POST-UTME AGGREGATE SCORE (100%)  = (A + B + C)/100 x 100%

3. The NEW RESULT SLIP is based on the POST-UTME SCREENING SCORE only, this is a portion of the POST-UTME AGGREGATE SCORE.
4. The POST-UTME SCREENING SCORE is computed as follows:
   • A = TOTAL O-LEVEL SCORE divided by 5
   • B = TOTAL POST-UTME SCORE

POST-UTME SCREENING SCORE (100%) = (A + B)/50 x 100%

5. Candidates will notice a CHANGE in their SCORES because the first print out is an AGGREGATE SCORE, while the second is a SCREENING SCORE.
6. Candidates must score at least 50% in the POST-UTME SCREENING SCORE to be considered for admission
7. The POST-UTME AGGREGATE SCORE (which has UTME score considered) will be used for placement in FACULTIES and DEPARTMENTS

I'm Not Proud Of Emerald - OAU VC

A program tagged "International Women in leadership" organized by International Law Students’ Association (ILSA), a program which majors on women in leadership held today at the level of Oduduwa Hall .. The programme which was graced by great Ife students and dignitaries  like  the Chairman, First Bank Nigeria( Mrs Ibukun Awosika),the first female Senior Advocate  in Nigeria( Mrs Sonaike) and the University Vice Chancellor, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede..

While giving his remarks on the program,  The Vice Chancellor praised  the efforts of the law students for organizing  such program and further  regarded them as the  ‘Best Students’ Association’  on campus.

He however condemned  Jacob Tosin Grace(Emerald) ,the suspended vice President of the Great Ife Students’ Union who was involved in a fight with the Union’s Director of socials -Adedayo Emmanuel(Lamba) which rubbished the image of the institution and resulted  to the suspension of the duo.

In His words ,He said “I am not proud of Emerald at all. She can still correct her past. She’s out there, leading protests instead of being in a programme like this, although she’s not qualified to be. We need good leaders like this women here today.”

The VC  however made it known as nobody is above mistake as she has made hers,  it can still be corrected..
