Chocomilo Resumes, Appreciates OAU Students

One of the reinstated students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife who was suspended sometimes last semester, Pele Obasi Joshua a.k.a Chocomilo has expressed gratitude to God and the generality of Great Ife students for their support while he was suspended by the school authority.

Chocomilo who was part of the recognized students who gave submissions during the Congress of students, held the atmosphere at stand still as he spoke deeply from his experience while he served the suspension served him by the authority.

“I thank God and Great Ife students that I am back for academic activities”
“Man because of our interest and selfishness, 99% of human beings are not honest”
“Many hide in the position of activism to play politics”
He also used the opportunity to brief the Congress on the basis of his reinstatement. According to him, he submitted himself to police investigation following his suspension and after series of investigations, the Investigating Unit of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) handling the case concluded that he was not involved in the alleged abduction. Chocomilo however called on Great Ife students to continue to agitate with lawful means for the reinstatement of the remaining suspended and rusticated students.

Pele Obasi Joshua a.k.a Chocomilo is a Law student in his fourth year of study. He was deprived of opportunity of contesting for the post of Chairman of Awolowo Hall during the last Students’ Union elections on the allegation that he had an unresolved but unrevealed case with the school management. He was later suspended some weeks into this session for his alleged involvement in the abduction of one Mr Alabi Abeeb who was the Chairman of the Electoral Commission in the last Union elections. This allegation has since been quashed by the investigating authority which eventually led to the restoration of his studentship.

Did you apply for any of the INEC Ad-hoc jobs at the upcoming 2015 General Elections and you are you still doubting if the much publicized submission of Acknowledgement slip and Admission Letter at the INEC office in your state is not real?

I am happy to tell you that it is VERY REAL! The submission is not only going on in Osun state. Other states' INEC offices have started to collect those documents from applicants too. States confirmed to have started receipts apart from Osun state include Ondo state, Lagos state, Oyo state and others.
Submission will be to the INEC office of the state you will be posted to work i.e the state you chose as your residential address while applying online. For instance, as a student of OAU, I live in Lagos and put down Lagos as my residential state while applying online, then I will have to submit to the INEC office in Lagos.

Goodluck peeps!

Students' Union Water Project Is A White Elephant Project -Mozambique Hall Chairperson

The Chairperson of Mozambique Halls of Residence, Miss Ashimolowo Jumoke has described the water project executed by the Central Executive Council of the Ibikunle-led administration in her Hall as a white elephant project.

As parts of projects earn marked for inspection by the Union officers during the Union's inspection tour, the completed water system installation in Angola Hall and the one located at the upper part of Mozambique Hall were inspected by teaming stakeholders of the Unions including press men. In what seems to be a deal gone sore between the Hall Executive Council(HEC) members of Mozambique Hall and members of the Central Executive Council(CEC), the Chairperson of the Hall repeatedly affirmed that the waster installation in her Hall has not lived up to its expectation as it does not serve any meaningful purpose since it has been completed.
"This is not serving Mozambique queens"

"It is only serving this floor (she pointed to the nearest floor to the tap)" She reiterated

The Union president, Ibikunle Isaac in his reaction expressed shock at the statement of the Chairperson. He debunked Jumoke's allegation and stated the refusal of the C.E.C to collaborate with her team to execute the project as her reason for saying such thing. To further substantiate his claim, he ordered that the person in charge of the installation should come around and switch it on. Water eventually gushed out of the tap even though when the tour train reached the point, the place was dry having scores of empty buckets around waiting to fetch.

Angolans too were not left out in the dissatisfaction expression as they complained that the water installation in their Hall has not been serving them well even when the Union President had tagged the project as just been a palliative measure to alleviate their sufferings when the water supply from the school dam ceases.

Students' Union Leaders Inspect Ongoing Projects

  • Ibikunle-led administration inherited N1.4m from Fjay's tenure

  • OAU Students' Union acquire 2 aluta jets

The 11th of January, 2015 was set by the administration of the Students’ Union to bring Press men/ladies and Student Stake Holders together for an interactive session on the projects embarked on and to inspect the projects.

At the beginning of the interactive session, the Secretary General of the Union, Shittu Ibrahim Olatayo, stated the reasons for the pre-meeting to be for intimating participants about the projects and to let everyone know that there has been no embezzlement of the Union’s funds. He added that the amount of money the current Union administration expected from the University management totaled N18million being the cumulative dues for the three years in which the Union was proscribed. He however put the total amount of money generated in the current tenure from students’ dues between N6 and 8 million, and that the University management has released less than N5 million and it is on the basis of this that projects are been carried out. “There is nothing like N18 million anywhere in the budget we made”, he said.

The President, Ibikunle Isaac M., then took the podium to state the principles of leadership as accountability, transparency and promise of hope, all of which he claimed the leadership is working with, and without which the administration would be doing nothing. He further states: “The administration started with no cash especially during the struggle. There was problem of fund because there was a problem with the transfer of signatories from the previous administration. It was after the school fees increment struggle that N1.4 million from the Fredrick Joel administration was transferred to the administration. First instalment of N2.2 million to the Union was paid by the University Management after the budget was passed and on the 31st of December 2014, the second instalment of N2.1 million was released”.
The president also said that it was from the accumulation of these funds that several expenditures were carried out such as the Freshers’ party, the purchase of two buses (“Jet 2” and “Jet 3” of which “Jet 2” is yet to arrive), the purchase of DSTV for the SUB TV room, purchase of an additional television to the SUB, facelift of the SUB Conference room, the construction of pedestrian bridges between Akintola and Fajuyi Halls and between Fajuyi and Awolowo Hall (which are yet to be completed), and bore holes in Angola and Mozambique Halls. Other proposed projects include making available daily newspapers at the Students’ Union building, a 1,532 bedspace mixed students’ hall of residence (the point of this is however that the current administration wants to start the project for subsequent administrations to continue and complete), an OAU app in the nature of Facebook and LinkedIn is also been worked on and the developer confirmed that it is about 95% completed.

On the bridges, the Welfare Officer in the person of Ajewole Martins said the initial amount budgeted for the two pedestrian bridges was N305,000 but an additional amount of N20,000 was necessary to augment the payment. “On the bore holes, they are not the main source of water”, the president said, “they are just to help augment the school’s regular water supply”. The amount budgeted for the bore hole projects was N215,000 but as it is now, N280,000 has been spent and the contractor who did the work is still been owed, according to the administration.
