I mean the polar nature of our elected Union leaders are just too lucid. In your own objective observation and critical evaluation of the turn of events since the inception of the Ibikunle-led 2013/2014 Parliamentary Session, who is to be blamed for the whole imbroglio?

Osun Election Tribunal: Omisore May Be Sworn In As Governor In Couple Of Weeks

The proceeding at Osun election has indicated that the likelihood of Osun state having a new chief executive in the next few weeks is very high.

The tribunal's manual inspection and re-counting of ballot papers used for the election exposed that over one hundred thousand invalid votes were dumped in favour of Governor Aregbesola in almost all the Local authorities in the states.

Majority of these thumb printed ballot papers are from Ekiti state election in favour of Aregbesola (APC), were discovered in local government like Osogbo, Olorunda, Ejigbo, Ede North, Irewole, Ila-Orogun, Irepodun and others Aregbesola (APC) claimed he won.

Tribunal adjourned sitting till 30th of October, 2014 with newly appointed Judges as members. Justice E.N. Ikpejime from Benue State, will serve as chairman, Justice V.I Ofesi from Delta State and Justice Kutigi from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja are members.

As things stands now Omisore secured more valid votes in the Osun state governorship election and according to Hope for Nigeria, if the new Tribunal members confirm the re-counted results, Osun state will surely be having a new governor in couple of weeks to come.

The Governorship candidate of the People Demphatic Party (PDP) is contesting the votes of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola is some Local Government and seeking the cancellation of the alleged dubious figures. The former senator wants the tribunal to declare him the Governor-elect using the lawful votes, arguing that his lawful votes were more than Aregbesola's.

The incumbent is, however, asking that his victory at the August 9 election be upheld.

Aregbesola, however, demands a re-run of the Governorship election in the event the tribunal holds that his lawful votes did not fulfill the constitutional requirements upon which his declaration as WINNER was based.

Webometrics Ranking: OAU Remains Nigerian Best University

The newly released University ranking for the second half of 2014 by the popular Webometrics has insist Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) as the current best University in Nigeria.

The top spot has been maintained by the foremost university since last year as the running up spots continue to change. Convenant University in Ota, Ogun state has also risen to its record rank of second position in Nigeria and the best private University in Nigeria. Followed closely are University of Ibadan, University of Lagos and University of Ilorin in the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively. Also worthy of note is the Federal University of Technology, Akure in the 9th position making it the best Technology School in Nigeria. Among the newly created 6 Universities, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State is ranked best in the 17th national position. No Nigerian University according to the ranking is neither among the top 10 Universities in Africa nor the top 1500 Universities in the World.

OAU Students Appeal To Aregbesola, Osun CP Over Colleagues Suspension

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University have appealed to the school management, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maishanu, over the reinstatement of their suspended colleagues.

The authorities of OAU had suspended eight students of the school over allegation of misconduct, claiming that the students would be reinstated after the completion of a police investigation.

Students Union leaders in the school were also placed on rustication on probation allegedly for their roles during the protests against fee hike.

The suspended students are Pele Obasa, Ibirogba Samuel, Ademuwagun Johnson, Sanyaolu Oluwajuwon, Oluwole Olubanji, Benjamin Olusiji, Adabale Olamide, Abiodun Abimbola.
However, during a press conference, President of the SU, Ibikunle Isaac wondered why the school management suspended the students without any investigative report.

He explained that the police seems not to be helping matters, lamenting that they were harassed when they visited the Osun State Police Command to lodge complaints.

He said, "Currently, all Executives of the Students Union are under probationary rustication for their involvement in the struggle against hike in fee and 8 other students are on indefinite suspension for their principled defense of the collective interest of students and demand for justice.

"We re-affirm our believe that this courageous students are not criminals.
We strongly appeal to the university authority, Osun State Governor and CP to ensure the freedom of these students. This is because our management in the letter given to the suspended students said they will only be reinstated after an investigation conducted by the police has been concluded. We are still in darkness on whether or not a case is actually with the police but we know that the governor also has power over a case like this. We urge him to intervene and ensure our students freedom.
"We have also tried other diplomatic means as we have written to the Governing Council, ASUU and our various intermediaries to ensure immediate reinstatement and withdrawal of charges against students union leaders and activists. This approach we believe will be productive."

Meanwhile, one of the suspended students, Juwon has charged OAU management and commissioner of police among other to court to challenge his suspension.

ACJ Moves To Mediate Between Polar OAU Union Leadership

It is no longer rumour or a breaking news that the Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Union President, Comrade Ibikunle Isaac and the Vice President, Comrade Oladejo Funmi a.k.a Olori are not in good terms, thus the Union is experiencing its most unpalatable moment in recent years.

This can be corroborated with recent Press Statements issued from the offices of the two leading Union officers as they trade blames and point accusing fingers at themselves. They continue to give Great Ife students reasons to believe and conclude that there is more than meets the eye. Olori in her last Release which she titled OLORI: THE UNITY I WANT, IS THAT OF PURPOSE, tried to justify the 'Congress' she called on October 2 which has since been a subject of controversy amidst the student populace and which Ibikunle himself during the last Press Conference critically and constitutionally condemned. Now, who is telling the truth? Who should innocent Great Ife students believe? What are the hidden stories behind the polarization in our Union? What are the efforts of the Union officers in a bid to restore normalcy on campus? What is the real stance of the Union factions on the issue of the suspended OAU students?
In a bid to answer these questions and hopefully ensure that things that had fallen/is falling apart are brought back together, the Association of Campus Journalist(ACJ) has taken the bold step to hear both parties and shed light on those areas that are grey to Great Ife students. ACJ will be having a Closed Joint Interview for the two leading Union officers; The President and Vice President of the Students' Union which will be reported immediately to students of OAU.

Speaking on the proposed interview, the ACJ Chairman Guild of Editors, Ayodele Ibiyemi said that Journalists, as the conscience of the masses should be the voice of the ordinary people and cannot look away in a time like this when the studentry is extremely polarized. He further pointed out that the Closed Joint Interview is intended at giving the student the real picture of what is actually going on. In his words, "We intend to give people the truth as against the propaganda that is being peddled. We also intend to mediate between the opposing forces".

As at the time of filing this report, the Union President has consented to honour the invitation as ACJ still awaits the notification from the Vice President. The report of the Interview will be explicitly reported on our website immediately after the interview.
