Omolere Oluwatobi Set To Launch Debut Book

Popular Student of the Department of Nursing Science of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Omolere Oluwatobi is set to launch his debut book.

According to Tobi, who is known to many as Maxi, the book titled "Chronicles of Realities" is an account of the events that occurred in the last Elections of the OAU Chapter of the Nigerian Universities Nursing Students Association in which Tobi was a candidate. The book was co-authored with
Ogunjobi 'Yomi and Justice Oni Clement.

The launch is scheduled to hold by 10am on the 11th November 2017 at HSLT C and everybody is invited.

NIBC, MacForex Ukraine Bring Forex Masterclass To OAU

Men Do Not Tally

I read poetry; good and bad, and I also make attempts to write some; good and bad. Earlier this year, in the middle of all the shouts that came with the Depression talk, I wrote a poem. My poem was merely an attempt to have fun with the word itself; mentally. Paradoxically, inserting a space into the right place in the word breaks it into two words; men tally. In my poem, which might of course come off as mediocre in some circles, I tried to reestablish a point already established by mother nature herself- I tried to state again that as much as we were one species, we are not equal!

Mercy was a 100L student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife. Sometime last week, she killed herself and there have been many postulated reasons why. In acceptance of the truth, no one would ever truly know. Some of her friends and acquaintances have come to state that she had signs of depression and would go on to kill herself for failing one of her courses. This has been the major argument and even from this, several smaller arguments have begun to emerge: Some saying that she was too young to handle the pressures of a University, some of the opinion that the incident was an indication of the failure of the Counselling unit of the school and a number of other diverse thoughts on the issue somehow seem to make it worthy of conversation.

The first major separation I would have from my mother (at least that I consciously remember) happened when I was a little over Nine years of age. I remember at the time, I spoke at lot to myself; way more than I spoke to anyone else around. And on some nights when my eyes needed cleansing, I would somewhere under the wrapper she gave me to protect myself from mosquitoes and cold find the tears to properly express myself. Despite all of this, there was still the pressure to pass my examinations in flying colours from home. Somehow in the middle of all of this, I would learn quite a number of things- most basic of them all being the fact that in the reality of it; “I am alone in this world”. I think this lesson would eventually go on to influence some of the ideals of my adult self. So I believe that as much as age does have a strong influence in determining the mental capacity of a person, sometimes it is not enough assess that capacity. The average age that one is expected to enter the university is Sixteen years but this is not to say that there are not older people who are foolish or younger people who are wise enough to handle the pressures of independence that comes with the University life and so for me, I do not think Mercy’s age should hold too much ground in the discussion of her suicide. After all, too many people have made wiser choices at that age and even older people have committed suicides for more diminutive reasons.

Of course, the argument that the Counselling unit of my dear University would be more effective if she were closer to the students stands valid for me. Counsellor’s offices could be present within respective faculties. Personally, I’m not sure which I’d choose between killing myself and walking down to the Division of Student Affairs to see a counsellor, perhaps there just might not be a difference between both options. Somehow, I have tried to not talk about Depression too much in this course of the editorial. I mean, the entire WHO is talking about Depression this year, not forgetting the thousands of NGOs and other organizations that are also engaging the same topic. For me, I feel before we begin to point fingers or chastise anybody, we recognize at the very foundation that mentally, men do not tally…

Great Ife SU Parliamentarians Storm The National Assembly

Great Ife Students Union Parliamentarians today visited the National Assembly ,31st October 2017 with over 30delegates.  The delegates led by the Speaker of the Parliament (Rt. Hon Falayi Temitope) stormed the National Assembly Complex   located in the Three Arm Zone of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The visitation  spearheaded by the  Summit Committee headed by Hon. Olawuni Tobi A (Leveler) observed proceedings at the Upper and lower Chambers of the National Assembly(Senate and House of Representatives)..

During the Plenary session, Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of the Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara recognized and welcomed Parliamentarians from Great Ife students representative council  with the Deputy Speaker , Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Lasun  giving a special recognition to all delegates being an alumnus of the institution and thanked them all for the short visitation..

Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency on the need for the visitation, the Speaker of the Great Ife Parliament, Rt. Hon. Falayi Temitope said the visitation is to  address major issues affecting the general masses of Nigerian students stressing the fact  that the educational sector has lost its course over the years and further urged   the Joint Session of the National Assembly, most importantly , the senate and House of Representative committees on Appropriation to see to the increase in the allocation sum for the educational sector to a minimum of 26% recommendation of the total budget by UNESCO which will bring an end to social and economic unrest among Staff Unions such as ASUU, NASU and Students’ Union

Furthermore, he added  that  a new trend has become the order of the day in campuses over the country as Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of Higher Institutions are being  dictatorial and tyrannical for Suspension and Expulsion of students who are on  peaceful demonstration of poor welfare condition and underfunding of the education sector and further  demanded  the unconditional reinstatement of all suspended and expelled students in all campuses with immediate effect .

The Delegates also visited some top dignitaries of the national assembly in their offices like the Senator representing Osun East Constituency, Senator  Christopher Omoworare Babajide who was met celebrating his birthday today, he  welcomed the delegation seeing them as one of his own.

However, while addressing the delegates  Senator Omoworare expressed his displeasure concerning the suspended students and promised he will try his best to get them reinstated.. He further advised the delegates to take their studies seriously  and added that the development of the agriculture/education sector and restructuring  remains the paramount step in developing the country.

To end the trip,the delegates have also being  booked to have an inter-parliamentary  sitting with the  Students Representative Council  at the University of Abuja , Gwagwalada,Federal Capital Territory tomorrow

Nigeria Ordered to Pay $244 Million Damages for 1967 Civil War

 

 

Nigeria was ordered to pay 88 billion naira ($244 million) in damages to those affected by a 1967 civil war after failing to clear landmines and other explosives in the country’s southeast.
The government of Africa’s most populous nation must pay 50 billion naira to compensate war victims and a further 38 billion naira to state authorities to help rebuild damaged property, the Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice said Monday.
The three-year conflict was fought between the Nigerian government and the southeast state of Biafra.

Adekunle Damilare Appointed UJCM, OAU New C.O.P Coordinator

Not only was it a glorious service today, Sunday, 29th October, 2017 at the 5,000 seater OAU Amphi Theatre, it was also a mixed moment of thrill, worship and emotions as the congregation anticipated the inauguration of the new executives and members of the Action Committee of the United Joint Christian Mission, OAU.

Adekunle Damilare Daniel, a Part 4 student of the Department of Computer Science and the current Pastor, Winners Campus Fellowship, OAU was appointed as the New Coordinator, Committee of Pastors (C.O.P), UJCM, OAU alongside other new executives.

The inauguration service was graced by some university alumnus and past executives of the UJCM, OAU with over 5,000 students in attendance.

Adekunle Damilare Daniel succeeded Adedoyin Samson (the erstwhile Pastor, Mountain of Fire Campus Fellowship, OAU).

We wish all UJCM, OAU new executives a successful tenure and we pray God grants them the wisdom to lead the mission according to His purpose.

No More Lies, WhatsApp Knows Where You Are.

WhatsApp users can now share their movements in real-time in the world's most popular chat app. Quoted from the express page, this newest feature of WhatsApp is called Live Location, and lets users track their chat partners’ movement for 30 minutes, an hour or eight hours at a time.

Previously, WhatsApp has allowed users to share their location as stationary places on a map. Now, when a user selects Live Location, the user’s friends can see their location on the map, which is automatically updated as they move.

WhatsApp has stated that its new feature is "a simple and safe way to let people know where you are".
The end-to-end location is encrypted – similar to messages, photos, videos and files you send in WhatsApp – which should remove some users' fears about this feature.
In addition, you can also choose to terminate the sharing of location prematurely before the end of the specified time period.

WhatsApp intended the Live Location feature to be very useful for someone who is trying to meet a friend, or at least letting a loved one know that they are safe or just sharing a journey.

To get started, turn on the location settings or GPS. Then, open WhatsApp conversations with the people or groups you want to share with. Under Location on the install button, there's a new option for Live Location Sharing or Share Live Location.
WhatsApp will then ask you to choose how long you want to share your GPS data.

Once you have decided, just click the Send button.
Everyone in your selected chats can now see your real-time location on the map.
And if more than one person shares their Live Locations in a group chat, all locations will be visible on the same map.
The Live Location update is available on Android and iPhone and will be available in the coming weeks.
