The second edition of this charity event is in the works, getting ready to be bigger and better. Leave Welfare For Government, OAU Students Beg Union Leaders

Leave Welfare For Government, OAU Students Beg Union Leaders

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University have pleaded with their Students' Union leaders to avoid confrontational agitations for better welfare as they resume from a month-long mid-semester break.

Some students of the institution have relayed their opinions to OAU Peeps News Agency through our various media saying it is now high time we gave the academic calendar time to breed and restrain from any confrontational agitation that may halt the newly reviewed academic calendar for the rest of the session and that of 2015/2016 session.

One of the students who prefers anonymity wrote in that; 'Dear TY (The Students' Union President), as we resume from the mid-semester break, please let us leave welfare for Government. Thanks'. This is coming after the Nigerian president during December Presidential Media Chat disclosed that the Federal Government has earmarked 500 billion naira in the 2016 budget solely for infrastructural development in tertiary institutions.

The OAU Union Leadership who led the students to protest poor welfare condition at a time some students have described as odd and not timely has however opined in her new year message her readiness to redirect agitation for better welfare conditions for students to a more national front and outside the four walls of the institutions since President Buhari has acknowledged the bad state of Nigerian tertiary institutions infrastructure-wise.
