"Great Ife Is Every Music Artiste’s Nightmare" -Olisa.tv

"Great Ife Is Every Music Artiste’s Nightmare" -Olisa.tv

The Social image of the Obafemi Awolowo University has probably lost some points in the Nigerian music industry following the latest performance of the YBNL 'Sade' Crooner, Adekunle Gold, at the OAU Invasion which was held on Friday, 12th June 2015.

Adekunle Gold was the most anticipated performer of the night and some of the students were disappointed following his very brief performance. The disappointed students claimed that they did not enjoy the value of the money paid for tickets as his performance was too brief and some even related the incident to Kim Kardashian and the Darey's Love like a movie show in 2013.

However, Event Promoter; Wale Applause, took to his twitter account to further claim that the DOS of the Students Union and some "Awo boys" went back to collect part of the money already paid to Adekunle Gold and blogs like radar.ng and olisa.tv have already started drawing inferences from this twitter release.

The Leadership of the Union have not released any  official statement concerning the incident but a relieving fact is that Adekunle is not the first musical artiste to perform in OAU. In fact over the last two years artistes like Wizkid Oritshe Femi, Wande Coal, Burna Boy, Harrysong, Reminisce, Sean tizzle and even the indigenous Chinko Ekun  to mention a few have performed in OAU without making negative headlines and so it is perhaps a misunderstanding of some sort.
We however hope that the parties involved (Office of the DOS and Adekunle) can come out to clear the air, sort their differences and move forward and the music industry does not get the wrong impression of OAU. It would also be imperative at this  juncture to admonish the Great Ife Students not to be so alutaristic especially when they are supposed to be having fun.
P.S- Falz the BAHD guy was also in Ife yesterday at a different show.

Ibiyemi Accepts EPC’s Judgement, Calls For Support

The EPC’s newly pronounced substantive Secretary General elect of the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union, Awotiwon Ibiyemi has accepted the judgement of the Election Petition Committee returning him as the duly elected Union officer.

In an interview with the pressmen immediately after the judgement was delivered, Ibiyemi expressed satisfaction with the justice that has eventually prevailed at the end of the whole proceedings.

“I really don’t know, I cannot say I am happy, I cannot say I am sad but this is my own position; being a law student, all I demanded for was Justice to be done, though everything went along time where the eligibility was in question.”
Ibiyemi also dissociates self from the publishing of Oketooto Oluwaseun a.k.a Hon. Seun’s result on the Social media and on Punch newspaper. He said he does not have any link whatsoever with the publishing of his result. According to Ibiyemi, he was just fortunate just like every other Great Ife who saw the result posted on Facebook.

When asked if he sees himself integrating fully into the TY’s led administration despite the fact that the current tenure has gone a long way in planning especially, Ibiyemi said he only need to assume office to wow Great Ife students.

Awotiwon Ibiyemi however appreciated the generality of Great Ife students for their support so far and call for continued support to enthrone justice to the end.

“It is true that there is a worldwide economic recession. However in the case of Nigeria, its impact was aggravated by Mismanagement.”- Buhari (1984 maiden speech as the head of state).

His administration then was recorded as one of the best we ever had. 31 years later his statement still remains evergreen with a confirmation from a former president.

“Our economy should not have been this bad…When we left in May 2007, the reserve was said to have been raised to $35 billion. Today, that reserve has been depleted.”-Obasanjo talking about the state of the economy before 2015 elections.

“Nigerians will not regret that they have entrusted national responsibility to us” – Buhari 2015 (inauguration speech).

He is ready to use the magic wand again to stabilise the system and restore integrity in them. Is this possible in four years?

Don’t forget “I discovered that by sheer willpower, I could end the end long queues and price fluctuations in our petrol stations.”-Jonathan (2010 during campaign). This dream didn’t bring us goodluck as we still have long queues in our filling stations till May 29, 2015; a day he was bowing out off office.
***Will four years of Muhammadu Buhari lead Nigeria to a socio-economic prosperity?***

JUDGEMENT OF THE ELECTION PETITION COMMITTEE
Pursuant to its constitutional mandate to hear any question as to whether or not “any person has been validly elected in any Union election as provided under Article III Section 59 (1)(b) of the Sacrosanct Constitution of the Students’ Union, the Election Petition Committee received petitions from the Petitioners hereof on the 23rd of May, and 26th of May respectively, challenging the eligibility of the respondent, OKETOOTO SEUN LANRE; the Secretary General of the O.A.U, Students’ Union in contesting the 2014/2015 Students’ Union election on the ground of not satisfying the minimum C.G.P.A requirement of 2.5 as provided under section 4 of the 2014/2015 electoral guidelines.

The Election Petition Committee upon the reception of the petitions together with its exhibits granted the first prayer of the first petitioner “ to cause a hearing to be held to determine the truth and validity of the evidence attached to this petition and further determine the eligibility of the 1st respondent.”

In order to determine the exhibits the petitioners relied on as evidence, the Committee invited the Electoral Commission before its hearing on the 25th of May, 2015. The Election Petition Committee upheld the argument of the Electoral Commission, through its Chief Electoral Officer that the requirement of the Commission was the C.G.P.A of candidates at the point of submission as provided under section 4 of the electoral guidelines. Consequently, the argument of the Electoral Commission that it is not but the Division of Students’ Affairs conferred the prerogative to look into the e-portal account of contestants was also affirmed but ordered for the tender of documents the respondent submitted to the Commission before he was allowed to participate in the Election.
The nomination form of the respondent which was received from the Secretary of the Electoral Commission on the 27th of May, 2015 showed that the requirement of the C.G.P.A column on the respondent’s form was blank. It was upon that, the respondent was advised to print out his results from the e-portal in order to clarify issues.
On the 3rd of June, 2015, the respondent submitted before the committee all his results for calculation in order to ascertain his exact C.G.P.A.

On the 8th of June, 2015, upon inviting all parties involved, the C.G.P.A of the respondent was calculated in the proceeding of the committee by OLUGBEMI A. OLUKAYODE and ATEJIOYE ADEMOLA both 500 level students of the Faculty of law. The calculation was transparently done in the presence of all at the proceeding. The figures showed that the C.G.P.A of the respondent up to Harmattan semester of 2013/2014 is 2.48.

The Election Petition Committee hereby finds that the respondent, OKETOOTO SEUN LANRE failed to satisfy the requirement of minimum C.G.P.A of 2.5 as provided for in the 2014/2015 electoral guideline and ought not to have participated in the process at all.

Consequently, he is hereby ordered to forfeit his position as the Secretary General of the Students’ Union within 24 hours.
Furthermore, the 1st runner up in the Election is hereby ordered to be sworn in as the substantive Secretary General of the Students’ Union.

The verdict above was passed by 7 members of the committee out of 9 members of the committee. These indicate that a quorum was formed for the verdict to be passed ab. Initio as a constitutional requirement that must be met by the committee to pass a standing verdict.

Signed
Adeyemo Akintunde F.
Chairman, Election Petition Committee
