The Next Senate Meeting And Underlying Conditions Towards School Re-opening

Dear Peeps,

Be informed that the last Senate's meeting was held on Wednesday,July 30th,2014 and the next one would be held on Wednesday,24th September,2014.This is,in no doubt, subject to the drafted academic calendar for the current 2013/2014 Academic Session.

Meanwhile, all new dates, in consideration of the school's closure, shall be decided by the Directorate of Academic Affairs(DAA), Senate Division. Having decided on the new academic calendar, at a special meeting of the senate, the resolution would, thereafter, be forwarded to the stakeholders for receipt and acknowledgments accordingly.

More importantly, the decision of the stakeholders/management would, therefore, be communicated to the Federal Ministry of Education, which would in turn act on the school's re-opening on the school's management recommendation(s).

Conclusively, I have to make this clear to us that our resumption is not feasible in this month and in the early weeks of September. This is, now,the reason why I say "Yesterday is a cancelled cheque, tomorrow is a promissory note, today is the only cash you have, so spend it wisely."

Regards,
BENTIGOL OPEYEMI OJEWALE

Students' Union Meeting With Management Ends Inconclusive

FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF THE UNION(As at Tuesday,12th August,2014)

Today, 12th August, 2014, the leadership of NANS Zone D led by Comrade Sunday Asefon(Zone D Coordinator) and Comr Momodu Daniel(NANS National Secretary) met with the Dean, Division of Students Affairs(DSA) to discuss all issues relating to the struggle earlier today. The weight of matters raised necessitated another meeting with the Vice Chancellor who was represented by Prof. Abayomi Salami, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, including the leadership of the Students' Union, some honourables of SRC, representatives of the ACJ and some faculty presidents.

At the meeting the following demands were made:
• Immediate re-opening of the University
• Review of the fees
• Implementation of instalmental payment
• Introduction of work-study and scholarship for indigent students
• Non-implementation of late registration penalty
• Non-victimization
• Mobilization of final year students for NYSC in November this year.

The DVC Academics in response to the above demands first highlighted the discomfort of the University with the closure stating that it is not of benefit to either the management or the students. He however assured the meeting of the management's commitment to quick and soonest resumption but said he cannot at that moment state a particular date as this is an exclusive duty of the senate. Without leaving out the main issue that led to the closure of the varsity which is increment in fees, the DVC is ready to reduce and assured that the Senate will consider the review of the fees and subsequently communicate its decision in earnest stating that he cannot for now announce any figure.

On the implementation of instalmental payment, the DVC said there is consideration for that especially for some persons that may be found in extreme situations/cases. He also said the senate Relief Committee has presented its report to the Senate and that all plans & logistics to implement the work-study and scholarship for indigent students will be set to work.

He further promised to present the demand of NANS that late registration be addressed only after the University has been reopened to the Senate for the review of the session calendar.

The DVC did not fail to address the issue of timely mobilization of students for the NYSC programme by informing the meeting that the DSA, the Committee of Deans and his office have started putting up plans to ensure that the senate approves all final year results and they are mobilized for NYSC come November 2014.

The last issue addressed by the meeting was that of non-victimization of student-leaders and all other students as NANS zone D pleaded that the Management should avoid any planned victimization against any students involved in the protest as this will be an infringement on the rights of students to protest.

Greatest IFE! We remain committed to quick resumption of students back to the University and holistic resolution of all lingering matters. All available opportunities and options available to ensure these will be further utilized as all third party mediators have been kept abreast of the result of the meeting...La lucha sigue!

Signed

Ah,see this freshers o,them dress like say na party them dey go, well I remember last year when i also gained admission, I wore my Christmas cloth to school, i wanted to look so good, may his soul rest in peace, my Dad even told me that i should beware of girls with the way am dressed,Tunde said while conversing with his new friend Ayo. Ayo also didn't go home,he stayed back in school as he said that, there is no point going home when his school is on fire. Na you know o, them too go dey form next year, saying same thing you are saying, Ayo replied Tunde.

Campus was agog with the arrival of fresh students for the 2013/14 session. Sodiq an English student who sat close to Tunde made a joke of the expensive cars bringing the students to campus,he said; 'You now say make management no increase the fee,see as cars dey flow in', everybody including Tunde laughed at this joke.Angola hall now Tunde's former hostel, was beehive with the fresh students who were carrying loads. This girls sha,see how them they pack food stuff, like say dem feed their roomates, Tunde said refering to the Mozambique girls.

Have you not noticed something?Ayo asked Tunde, what is that? Tunde replied. The number of students here now is low compared to last year, it seems people really are finding it hard to pay their school fee, well i share their pain,Ayo concluded. Tunde also told Ayo that he observed same thing but didnt want to be the whistle blower. I just hope they reduce the fee,or return it to status quo,if not so, students no go gree o, Tunde added.

Just then Tunde's Phone rang...

  • Adewuyi Julius Adesoji:  resumption is what we want.
  • Oyeniran Christopher: Resumption and reduction in fee!!Total reversal may not be possible.
  • Peter Onoriode: There should be a REDUCTION instead of total reversal of d fees and RESUMPTION most importantly
  • Qhordrie Olukayode Ajibade Plato: At least, another #5000 Reduction. Then, resumption before September. Then, on the part of the fresher's Fees, it should not be this expensive next session. We forgive the management over this one they have done. Next session, the freshers' fees too should be reduced.
  • Oduwobi Yorisola: reduction.resumption nd d skul mgt shud let us knw if it plans 2 increase fees again nd @wat rate xo we dnt find ourselves in similar crises wer we'll b caught unaweres.abi wetin una tnk?
  • Akanfe Olugbenga Diamond: #BringBackOurMoney
  • Ogunwale Goodness: #Voiceofthepeople.... #cmonletsresume
  • Afolabi Mayowa LordMayor: May the LORD show u the way uhm #ALLZWELL
  • Alfred Gbadebo Ibojo: why is oau currently more expensive dan it's conterpart like u.I, unilag, uniben despite being on top of subvention. Ask Omole dis questn and demand for reversal

  • Akinniyi Oluwasegun: -immediate resumption and reduction if the school fee can't be reversed totally -Non-victimization of the student union Excos and activists, the protest was executed by Great Ifes and not the aforementioned individuals.
  • Olubanji Engels Oluwole: The point is this: if management has a proposal, let them reopen the school first for us to discuss and have a resolution. Bring their proposal to the Congress, the Congress started the struggle, and only that general gathering of Great Ife Students can end it... either reversal or no reversal... not facebook
  • Adesoji Gabriel Angelgabby: Opinions are registered and keenly observing
  • Banjris Aloma: all we want is that school open first later we listen to their offer and bring it to the generality of Great Ife student to take their position and have a way-forward.
  • Adedokun Aminat Jenrade: Resumption n reduction
     Olajide Aaron Olayinka: #resumption #resumption #resumption #resumption #resumption #resumption
  • Tiamiyu Nurudeen Adewale: pls I support what olubanji said, let resume pls for God sake reversal or no reversal and latter we find a resolution among our selves. God bless u
  • Gbenga Desire Bankole: TOTAL REVERSAL of staylite's fee, reduction of freshers fee. . . . . + resumption and installmental payment. Dats wat we want, even though our wants may be too demanding buh dey started it with dier overdoing d increment. And tell him to be a democratic ruler, he shuld carry us along and stop treating us like we r slaves, we need to be informed abt most of dier actions cos we are a major stakeholder. If dey cant totally reverse cos of ego, dey shuld reduce to d bearest minimum.
  • Adesoji Gabriel Angelgabby: Opinions are registered and keenly observing
  • Olajide Aaron Olayinka: Reduction is also vague_ 'm realistic. A mode of payment like the pay in two semester stuff; and resumption this month.
  • Olajide Aaron Olayinka: Resumption and two-semester mode of payment.

  • MC Austin Laffingas: I want to go for service from part3. #shikena
  • Gbenga Desire Bankole: wats ur own wif wat i want? Shebi u av said urs
  • Adesoji Gabriel Angelgabby: Like Resumption takes it all? Then others follow... Pray for us, No going back on resumption.
  • Olajide Aaron Olayinka: We can't afford to blow this_ if you say refunding/reversal/reduction_ those demands won't work. So, resumption and 2-semester mode of payments for those who can't afford it at once.
  • Gbenga Desire Bankole: i feel dier pain buh dey shuld try sacrificing for dier mates wu r @ home and cant pay. Y did we start d struggle in d first place
  • Kayode Olusola Asiri: D major tin is dat we resume as fast as possible, but it would be nice if d fee can be reduced so at least we'll av a consolation for spending about 2 months at home, cos its really frustrating.. #personal
  • Tiamiyu Nurudeen Adewale: most of the freshers were not part of d struggle, pls let us resume and resolution comes next.
  • Bello Muideen Adeyemi: a reasonable reductn 4 doz dat havnt paid and d skul can ovalook doz who hav paid.
  • Gbenga Desire Bankole: its rili awkward hw sum ppl wuld tell us b4 d struggle started dat we'll go home and come back to pay d fees and nw dey are all clamouring for just resumption so dat dey'll tell ppl dat dey've said it b4. NANS, we will never pay dat amount o, nt after sending us home for 2months and still counting, we all are nt shameless o
  • Victor Jimcy Oluwafolajimi: Total reversal indeed...Una don drink bobo!
Letz resume abeg ooo... A year at home and still counting!
Make those excos no go d meeting dey do agidi ooo... Resumption is my greatest concern!
  • Ayo Stephen: earliest resumption sud be top on d agenda nd a reasonable reduction... the total reversal for me is nt feasible nd i feel we sudnt be too greedy, atleast from my point of view if they can reduce by 50%, majority of us here will be ready to resume by wednessday. There sudnt be victimization of those who avent paid, i belong to dat category. if we can ave all these we re ready to go.
  • Moses Ever-young Jackson: #Resumption

  • Ayuba Mojoyinoluwa Olayiwola: Total reversal.Simple!
The Students' Union leaders of OAU and members of NANS Zone D are expected to meet with the management later today in what is aimed at resolving every issue and finding a way forward.
