"Youth Are Not The Leaders Of Tomorrow" - Professor Pat Utomi

During the 9th Faculty week of the prestigious Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University, the chairperson of the day when giving his address stated that people should stop rating him so high, but should simply call him Pat Utomi - the teacher because he's always been a teacher.

He stated further that what the Nigeria government has always embarked on is "progressive degeneration", which is the cause of continuous reduction in value of the nation.

He said these in his speech titled "The Paradox of Progressive Degeneration" - a topic which he dissected to the pleasure and reasoning of students and Academicians at the Oduduwa Hall. Prof. Pat Utomi made it clear that the cause of Nigeria's present economic problems was, in his words; "Nigerians had been unlearning to degenerate."

He later flourished the hall by telling the students present that "You are not the Leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of now", in his conclusive words he said the youths are the ones who can liberate Nigeria.

Some other dignitaries present at the programme was the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the University - Prof Anthony Elujoba, the Chairman of Mutual Benefits Group - Akin Olubiyi (also the guest speaker of the day), Prof A. A Amusan - the Dean of the Faculty, Prof Dibu Ojerinde - Ex JAMB registrar.

Some important dignitaries were presented with awards for their excellence in Agribusiness and Educational lines, some of the awardees were - Prof. Bamire, Mr Henry Ojo, Animal Care Konsult Nigeria Limited and others.

On the lecture, the University's Ag.VC concluded that the University will endeavour to set the pace for Agricultural development in Nigeria.
