As against the tradition in previous years, Thursday, September 1st, 2016 has been declared lecture free by the University Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife.
The announcement which was made in a circular pasted around the halls also stated that the day which is scheduled for the Matriculation of the Fresh students was declared lecture free in order to encourage the full participation of the students in the matriculation programme.
The directive has since gained positive reactions from students, even the stale students, who over the years have also been indirectly affected by the bustle of the Matriculation programme. Describing his experience at his own matriculation, a stale student of the Faculty of Pharmacy said, "The Matriculation day is usually very hectic, I remember I had to run from a class to Amphitheatre for the Matriculation after which I had another class and I still had to beat the 4:00pm deadline given us by the Faculty to return our gowns".
