"Beyond The Bar" Commences, Conference Enters Day Two



The Legal Career Opportunities Conference organised by the Law Students Society (LSS), OAU started yesterday, 2nd September with a lot of pomp and gallantry.

The first day of the conference was well attended by students from not only Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), but also students from other universities. The conference, which held at the Ogunbanjo Hall, started behind schedule at some minutes past 11am and after the preliminary proceedings were observed, the first speaker in the person of Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN who was duly represented by Dr Oscar Nliam and Monye Sowunmi, Esq spoke on 'Corporate Governance and Law'.
The first speaker's address was well received by the participants and it was with this same high level of enthusiasm that the second speaker, Barr. Bayo Adaralegbe was welcomed to the podium to give an exposition on 'Arbitration'. While educating the participants on arbitration, he admonished them to develop themselves by attending trainings, seminars etc. and work on their human relationship skills and communication. Participants got the opportunity to ask questions which Barr. Adaralegbe answered.

The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU) Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagboun was represented by Prof. Olagunju who gave a short address, enjoining students to follow their passion as it would see them through to the top of their chosen careers on his behalf.

There was a brief break, during which the participants engaged in scintillating discussion with some lucky ones winning recharge vouchers. During the break also, there was a special appearance by the President of the Law Students Society (LSS) Bowen University in the person of Miss Esther Sander. Her counterpart from Ajayi Crowther University Mr. Ilekoya Damilare was also given recognition.
The participants were served light refreshments during the break, after which a representative from Deeprimex Consult anchored a training on CV, Cover Letter and Personal Corporate Branding. He talked about building one's CV, not centering on academic work alone but engaging in extra curricular activities such as professional exams. He further stressed that the employer would always want to look for a distinguishing feature that you have ahead of other applicants.

The conference was brought to a close for the day after the training session and the participants were conveyed back.
The conference continues by 10am on Saturday, 3rd of September at the same venue.
