UI Tussle : VC To Meet With The State Commissioner of Police

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State and the embattled Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Professor Olayinka Abel were said to meet yesterday, 31st May, 2016 to address the students of the institution over the allegedly unlawful  arrest of two students of the university from the Students' Union building (SUB) yesterday.

According to reports gathered, one Mr. Tokunbo was said to have been arrested from the Students' Union building on the order of Vice chancellor.

Mr. Tokunbo was said to be in the building prior to the arrest. The chief security officer and his men stormed the building and the CSO ordered that he should be arrested. Resistance from the loyalists of Mr Tokunbo left the CSO with no other option but to conduct the arrest himself, which he did and subsequently handed him over to the waiting police officers after which he was taken to the Ojoo Police Station.

It was also gathered that after this arrest, a student activist Asiwaju Babatunde Badmus was informed and in his bid to rescue Mr Tokunbo, he was also arrested.

At the police station, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was reported to have said that the  order effecting the arrests were from the Vice Chancellor himself.

Not long  after the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo state ordered that the arrested students be released with immediate effect.

Not forgetting that trending on Twitter is the hash tag #AbelOlayinkamustgo after a large number of students of the institution took to Twitter to air their various grievances which included the demand for the resignation of their Vice Chancellor, Olayinka Abel, after the unlawful closure of school which arose from protests consequential to an unjustified suspension of a student.
