Faculty Of Agric. Trade Fair: OAU Students Grumble Over Prices Of Farm Products

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University grumbled over the price tagged on farm products at the Faculty of Agriculture Trade fair which held on Tuesday, February 16. Meanwhile, before the commencement of the programme some students were gallivanting around the faculty expressing their optimism in the arrival of a cheap farm product. Adenike Grace, a part two language arts student told OAU Peeps News Agency that; “I hope to get cheap food stuff here as they had earlier told me”. In a similar reaction, a part IV Agricultural student, Aginam Abraham confirmed that the farm products are expected to be cheap.

However, the price tagged at the farm product was contrary to the students’ expectation; it includes: Palm oil N200, Garri N100, Rice N270, Beans N350, Pork N400/kg, Beef N1000/kg. The heart of the programme, the committee for Trade fair disclosed to the students on queue that there is no discount on the farm product, though; it was fair compare to what they could get in the market.

In contrary to the students’ expectation, some students left the arena without purchasing anything while some left with a bag filled with foods stuff. A student who refused to disclose her identity to us as she prefers anonymity said “I could not purchase anything because the price is almost the same with what I purchased in the market and I do not budget for something of that price”.

However, the event was fun-filled as students took selfies and filled their bags with farm products as long as they could afford them.
