OAU Students Decry Poor State Of Hostels

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun state are calling on the school authority ‎to improve their welfare, particularly rehabilitation of the hostels.

This request is coming on the heels of preparations heralding the entry of a new Vice Chancellor to take over from Professor Bamitale Omole, whose tenure comes to an end in June 23, 2016.

The students complained about the state of hostels, toilets and lack of water.

With all these challenges, the students are optimistic that the incoming Vice Chancellor, who will be taking over from the present one, will help turn their fortunes around.

But while the ASUU members also have their expectations from the incoming administration, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU), OAU chapter appears to be dissatisfied with the selection process of the governing council.

They however still have expectations from the incoming administration.

Obafemi Awolowo University, formerly called the University of Ife, is one of the Federal Government owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

UNILAG Shut Down Over Student's Protest

The management of the University of Lagos on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of the institution ‎following students’ protests over epileptic power supply and poor water supply.
In a circular issued Thursday, the school said the closure was also due to the difficulties faced by the “large number of students” living off campus to attend classes as a result of the lingering fuel crisis.
“Senate noted that the problem of poor municipal service is a national issue that the governments at both state and federal level are addressing,” the circular stated.
Scores of students on Thursday blocked the major road leading into the university, including access to the school’s Senate building and the Assembly Hall where Rahman Bello, the Vice Chancellor, was attending an event.

Few hours later, armed police officers arrived the school, stopped vehicular entrance through the gate, and dispersed the angry students.
‎In the circular on Thursday, the university management said it was suspending all academic activities on campus to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
The management also ordered the students to vacate their halls of residence immediately.
“A decision to re-open for normal academic activities will be made as soon as municipal services improve,” the circular said.

“All members of the University community are enjoined to go about their normal activities as adequate securitmeasures have been put in place.”

Freshers To Resume Amidst ASUU Leave Speculation?

A very huge cloud of uncertainty continues to rest on the newly admitted students of the Obafemi Awolowo as the Previously set date, April 24th, for their resumption remains unsure.

In a bid to help ascertain the resumption date of these freshmen, our correspondent gathered that in as much as the agitation for the 56 days leave by the Academic Staff of the University was still on, as at the time of this release, it had not been officially declared by the University Management. Hence, the University still runs on the last approved calendar which states April 24th as the date for resumption.

However, this date still continues to remain uncertain as the University Authorities can still come out to declare any modification to this date. And so, we he hope that as the university portal is opened for the fresh students to commence registration, more clarification would be made as regards the resumption date. You can trust always OAU Peeps News Agency to continue to keep everyone abreast of new developments.

This Petrol Wahala - Jodekss

It is simply antithetical, what Nigeria today petroleum-wise is scything through isn't it? She's famously known as one of those tip-tops in petroleum products producer in the world and yet it's like these resources were never there to allay her citizen’s conundrums and or bloom up the good livings of the masses at large. You'd agree with me today that the scarcity is heightened and tightening the necks of the old and the young now, for it's mainly on these resources we solely lean on to survive economically. It is known to the known and even the unknown minds that without which, this country is paralyzed and the paradox is the paralysis is happening, can't you feel it?

All those organizations to regulate the production and the efficient supply of these resources and to make them viably available in the nooks and crannies of the four corners of this country are dwindling up and down in way far too confusing for ordinary citizens to understand, you know? So what! Organizations like PPPRA - Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency and important personalities that know the way in and the sure way out of this mess as I have read in papers, keep giving (false) hopes that all would be fine and the price would likely fall the more but it's just the other way round still. Some stations today sell twixt #200-250 per litter and a lot have died trying to buy it that way. I am not saying it's too late to have hope but its high-time they worked faster and make us see good results. Days ago as per how it was (reportedly) put in one of the most read dailies that in two weeks all would be fine. This they, allegedly have been telling us but no change still; let's see real change. The citizens have seen and witnessed enough of these pains God help us and have much mercy!

The power of a thing is usually its weakness I believe; Nigeria is not yet weak I would want to be positive now and believe too but the processes to lead to that had begun. It could be stopped. All those dead refineries in Kano, Port-harcourt etc, should be repaired quickly and put to on to work. Adequate distribution should follow and price should fall down the more and put Dollar to shame hopefully. Enough of deaths because of fuel scarcity, enough queuing all night long and still going home with empty kegs. If it's not enough now, tomorrow might be too late.
